Found a load for the fast twist
Awhile back you guys may recall I picked up a Knight disc 45 cal with a 1:20 twist. I played around with it for awhile and it shot pretty good. I decided to bed the stock with acraglass anyway. I did that but never got around to shooting it since the bedding job.
Today even though it was in the 90's i took her out to see what it would do. I started off with 100 gr triple 7 3f, 777 primers, and the 240 gr Dead Center 40 cal/ 45 tan sabot  017 by 1874sharpsshooter, on Flickr The Disc has an Omega 3x9 with the bdc on it. I didnt make any adjustments , I just wanted to see how it would group. The first target is the 100 gr  015 by 1874sharpsshooter, on Flickr then I upped the charge to 110 gr 3f triple 7  016 by 1874sharpsshooter, on Flickr I was pretty darn happy with that and think that just might be a good antelope load. I quit after that because the barrel was extremely hot and so was I. I swabbed with a spit patch after each shot and walked to mark each shot. That was the only cool down the gun had. Overall I'm pleased. 110 gr triple 7 and the 240 gr dead centers will be seeing more practice before the season. |

How in the world could you be happy with that? You're an inch high and 3/4" left!
Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. If I were you I would clean that rifle and put it away and never shoot it again. Or at least not post the pictures and embarass yourself. Or maybe you can donate it to charity. Something like the bronko charity in PA. |
Wow... that is some great shooting. An antelope would not stand a chance with that load. Even out to 250 yards I bet. Many years ago, I shot Dead Center Lightening 300 grain bullets out of my Black Diamond XR. And the accuracy of that load was amazing with 110 grains of loose Pyrodex RS.

Dad-gum-blarn-it Sharpshooter. I don't need to be buying any more bullets. But I have a 1:20 Green Mountain "Knight Cut Off" barrel for barrel #2 on the rifle build. I guess I'll have to give those a try when the time is right.

What more could you ask for? I'd say it could be much more than an antelope gun. Those 260s could knock down those prairie deer quite well.
How do think they would shoot in my Elite? I believe it's a 1/28 twist. |

Elites have a 1-30 twist.
Ive shot the PR 250gr QT version in mine. They did ok with 100-110gr of BH209 but not as good as his 1-20 twist DISC. IIRC i was getting roughly 1950fps, its possible a bit more fps might have tighten my groups. Im just not sure how much faster the soft lead can handle before it deforms in flight. |
I have never tried any Dead Center bullets but I have looked at them and was very interested in trying them. Excellent shooting by the way.

Is it true that faster twist like longer bullets? I thinks that's the conclusion of the Greenhill Formula. |
