Default Leaky Primer

Here lately, because of the QLA doings, the X7 has been doing a lot of work. What i started to notice was the primer were leaking soot inside the cup.

This was puzzling me because i had used the same load in the heat of last summer, and was satisfied then, that it wasn't excessive. The load is 300g Deep Curl, 110g BH, crush rib sabot, W209 primer. It does seem this load is about max for this rifle. One can see in the photo that there is zero blow by around the nose of the primer, so primer fit is not an issue. Last summer when it was too hot to shoot, the primers didn't leak soot inside the cup. This leaking soot was kinda like a pebble inside a sock. It didn't seem to me that removing the QLA would change the pressure seen by the primer.

Yesterday whilst cleaning the rifle, the flash hole in the vent liner was measured to be 0.035". This didn't seem to affect accuracy like i had read it would, but i wondered if it could bring excess pressure to the primer. The vent liner was replaced with a new shiny one with a 0.028" flash hole, and off we went this morning.

As simple as that the leaky primer were fixed.

That's amazing Ron. I'd never have guessed the cause.
