Good luck at D1CKS Sporting goods...
I was in the neighborhood and swung by D1CKS sporting goods today to see if they had any good off-season deals on muzzleloading bullets, powders, accessories, etc. This is a very large store, mind you, quite a bit bigger than the average D1CKS (no pun intended).
Well, they basically had 1 small rack with a few packs of Powerbelts, a couple boxes of XTP's, a couple boxes of Shockwaves and 2 or 3 packs of T7 primers. That was it!!! No powders at all, no cleaning supplies, no accessories, nothing! I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but man that was a real waste of time.... Sometimes in late winter/early spring I have found some good deals- the store trying to clear out last year's stock. Well, I must have been too late.... |
early bird kind of thing..........
I discovered the same thing at a Dick's store and when I mentioned it to the sales clerk.. he acted like he could give a good you know what.
Its amazing how Dicks and Gander Mtn stay in business. They do not compare to Bass Pro or Cabelas or even to Midway USA or Mid-South Shooter's Supply.
The Dick's here only has blackpowder stuff seasonal and barely has any then. Gander Mtn. here stopped carrying reloading supplies completely so no regular primers. Pretty much worthless.
I did not know D1ck's even carried BP supplies at least I have never seen any in the Phoenix area stores.
I did just buy a Henry "Golden Boy" 22 from D1ck's. Can't wait to shoot it. |
I order my sabots and bullets from Graf's because of their $4.95 shipping...Black powder is bought from the Goex distributor...For my flinters, I buy ticking in bulk, make my own balls and lube and bought a good supply of English flints years ago...
I stopped at a Dick's sporting goods store for the first time last week. The wife and I were in Pocatello Idaho. Store was very clean but had very little for hunting and fishing. Looked like it catered to clothes buyers and outdoor athletic sports.
I live in Northern VA just outside of DC and D I C Ks is the only game in town. Barely better than Wally World. Somebody needs to open up a hunting/fishing store here.
When they opened a dicks in San Antonio next door to a Bass Pro, I knew they are not concentrating on hunting or fishing. I did go in once to try and find a San Antonio Spurs Jersey, they didn't have the one I needed.
Here in colorado every time I go to dicks sporting goods are gander they never have what I'm looking for and when they do the price is way to much so know I do not shop there any more buy on line and with shipping it steel less then buying from them good luck to there store
I went to Dicks to pick up some T7 a couple years ago. All they had were pellets when I asked them why they told me people could make bombs out of loose powder.
you can score good at D icks and gander. just have to wait for the coupons and free shipping offers. for instance Gander doest double bill the freight on big items. ive ordered things like archery targets and ice fishing sleds and i dont know how they make money. try to order a xl Otter sled online and see what others charge. D icks usually has online coupons 20$ off 100$ with free shipping. there muzzy stuff is high but ive seen power belts on clearance at great prices.

The first Dicks in this area opened last year. No muzzleloaders. In fact, no guns at all and no shooting supplies.

Let's face it; us "load from the front" guys don't get no respect.

You can't buy a good single malt Scotch just anywhere. :s2:
The two near me suck. Thankfully I got a bass pro near me and swing by there often to goof off.
The gander mountain here might have 10 cars in the parking lot at any time. Selection is so-so and prices are way up there. |
Our D1cks is terrible. If you don't golf, jog, or play softball and baseball your SOL.....
The Dick's in our area is a waste of time period. If they do have what I am looking for it usually is twice the price.
their coupons suck too, about 25 excepions on what the coupon can be used for. I personaly don't need more than ammo, and the coupons cannot be used for that. their other lines of sporting stuff must sell well.:sad0064:

I've noticed this at most sporting goods stores. Back say 10 years ago after late ML Season (here Mid December) I could go to wal-mart and find all kinds of mark downs and great deals on everything from clothes to MLers.
Now adays you'r lucky to get what you need befor the seasons start. It seems as the stores know there going to have left overs and they lose when this happens, so to avoid losing money the dont order near as much as they used to. Now they order less and sell it and that's it, they dont lose. I'll never forget the one time after the season ended wal-mart had a bunch of Mossy Oak Blaze Orange Gore Tex Hunting Jackets, Bibs and Coats that all originally sold for over $100 each. I bought a pair of Bibs for $15 and the Coat for $17 and 2 Jackets for $10ea. plus I got Connie a Coat and Bibs for $15ea. If I bouth this stuff when it first went on sale I'd have spent over $700 on the stuff, after the season I got it all for around $82.00! and this is just one example, those days are over. But every now and then If I wanted a CVA I could save almost half off the price of the leftovers, but mostly what's left now is a few packs of Bullets and some cleaning stuff.... (BP) |
We do not have a single dedicated gunstore in town except for a couple tiny hole in the walls. Nor any gunsmiths. But....
...the Basspro here has enough room for a Tracker Boat marine shop, a huge indoor shooting gallery, an indoor casting pond to test rods and reels. Wide spaces between the aisles and a wall of guns like a government armory. The second floor- no elevators, about 45 steps to get up there. Takes all day to find stuff down one aisle among the 60-70 or so. Walking in from your car is like a South East conference football stadium where it takes awhile to find the way out the parking lot back to the street. |
The name of the store should say it all LOL.
I bought a few BP Bullets , etc right at the end of the BP season . The prices were reduced and the supply went by fast . Same thing at WalMart . Even Biekirck's ( big supplier in Rochester area ) had most of their BP items go fast .
When the season is over , the stores don't re-supply until just before the next season . Shelf / rack space is valuable . |
Well I've purchased a few things at Dicks. Nothing major. But just yesterday I picked up a small handgun safe that I can keep on my night stand or drawer to keep it out of reach of my grandchildren. It has either key or push button entry and only $60. Good insurance agains little hands.
