Default Late Afternoon Visit

A bunch of boys came for a short visit yesterday late. There was barely enough light to get a decent photo.

Whilst hiking yesterday the first of this year South Dakota state flower was spotted peaking out at 4900'.

I would have been hospitable. I'd of invited them to dinner. Their treat of course. Just kidding. Nice to see deer like that. Pasque Flower (I had to look them up) look a lot like the flowers in my back field. We call them Crocuses.

I had planted a couple rows of them back there along with some daffodils which are coming up and will be blooming any day now.

Do you normally see bucks with antlers this late into the year?

Around here, they typically drop by mid Jan. I did see one buck in mid Feb this year with headgear still. Never have I personally seen one in March.

nice!! Saw 2 deer in the front yard last night when we were coming home from fishing, no clue if they were bucks but they were getting at the green stuff popping up already.

Yes, we often see antlers this time of year. This bunch, if i recall correctly had 4 bucks without antler, one with 1 antler, and two with 2 antler. Brother in law say he saw a buck with old antler beside buck with antler sprouting with velvet. We have wondered if it is because these are 'townie' deer, whatever that would have to do with it.
