Took the .50cal Tenn. Mountain Rifle out today with its pet load of 90gr Pyrodex RS, Lubed wad, 250 REAL. The first shot had been loaded in the gun for 2 weeks.
Results:
1,432
1,489
1,455
Avg Velocity of 1,458 FPS.
Not great but the results at 100yrds are great so that's what she will get!

MD I swear - You're gonna have that little rifle wore out before elk season rolls around! I do believe that it is climbing on up to first place in your ML arsenal.
And I don't blame you, she has the looks and the accuracy to boot, AND she is a joy to tote around.

Oh tell me about it! I went hiking last week, went all over hells creation and back, carrying her didn't bother me one bit. A great gun for the thick stuff as well. I do feel odd though using my own body to protect it and shield it from branches LOL.

yeah i couldnt get any accuracy out of them with the lower charges. 80 to 90gr pyrodex rs with that wad has been the sweet spot in all but one of my rifles. the cabelas hawken does best with 70gr. I give up 1/2" in accuracy when i up it to 90gr.

I chronographed my 320 gr REAL bullets out of my Hot Rod Renegade.
I got 1627 with 100 gr of pyrodex select RS.
90 gr gave me 1564.
80 gr gave me 1440.
70 gr gave me 1395.
The best groups I got were in the 3" range. While that was probably plenty accurate for most hunting the paper patched 500 S&W bullets did much better.
For the most part the REAL bullets are a good bullet for accuracy. I have never tried them on game my self. Ron

both are lubed with olive oil/ bees wax. The wads are soaked in the melted mixture and allowed to suck it up. Without doing this, its hard to keep them on paper. Dry wads and its hard to keep them on paper at 35 yards.

I had to use over powder wads with mine too. The 100 gr load for me was almost 4" group.
Have you figured a BC for them yet. I am using .189 I got that by taking the muzzle speed and I knew how much drop it had from 50 to 100. I altered the BC until it matched the load. Then I shot it out to 150 and it was very close. So I stuck with .189

No clue on BC, i was hoping someone would know that lol.
Thats very interesting the speed you got. I wonder if my tubes were actually loaded with 90gr RS?? Makin me wonder now.
When i get some more #11 caps i will do some more testing.
Dead on or 3" high at 100 yards, how much drop did you get at 150 yards?
