Default "The Rock" by Caldwell

I purchased a new shooting rest. It is made by Caldwell, and called "The Rock." It us a very sturdy rest. But shooting today I can see that I have to "get used to it" all over again from my other Caldwell Rest. The other one was made out of plastic and in this very cold weather we had, I was shooting and came inside and discovered it had cracked. Could have been from the age, or the cold who knows. It served me well for many years and will serve me again as a blind rest.

Wanting to shoot off the new rest, I grabbed a 50 caliber Renegade with open sights off the rack. This is a sweet shooting rifle and was shooting dead center bulls eyes at 25 yards last time out, after some sight adjustment.

So again I used 85 grains of Schuetzen 2f black powder and a home cast round ball this time. And the same pillow tick patch. I know pretty boring. But it did not shoot dead center this time. In fact it was like it converted back to where it was shooting. High and to the right.

Could this be the new rest? Me getting used to the new rest? See this rest has no rear bag. It will this spring once the sand pile thaws and I can get a shovel into it. I will make some sand bags for the thing.

I was not upset with the group mind you. Other then the two that slipped. And that I really believe is because of the hair trigger on this rifle. Once you hit that set trigger.. stay away from the front trigger unless you want a Boom.

The new rest is rock solid. Very sturdy like Sabotloader said it would be. I like it. And am sure that I will get used to it quickly. The temps today were COLD!!! I used a spit patch at one time to clean the nipple off and wipe out the hammer. Five minutes later it was solid... frozen. I could tell it was cold because I was wearing no gloves. And you can see I did not last all that long today on the range. I was missing my wood stove too much.

Dave, i believe there is a a little learning curve to shooting off of any new rest but the Rock really gives me a feeling of having something 'rock solid' under the rifle.

I have only shot off of it twice now but I have a good feeling for it and I do believes it helps me.

I love the rock rest. I am 6'4" so I added a 8 inch extension along with the extra tall rear bag. I hate leaning too low into a shot as the scar over my left eye can attest. I like being able to tweak it without looking away from the shot. I think you will enjoy your purchase. I actually had my front fork break tho the first time i used it. I called Caldwell and they had another in my hand in 2 days.

No kidding. Wow these things are built like tanks. Must have been stressed. I am now getting used to it and liking it a lot more.

Dave buy a bag of rice . We have a company that uses small plastic pellets I use them in sand bags very light, water proof.
