So, just as I am increasing the amount of shooting I do local retailers, of all sizes, are decreasing their inventory.

I don't know if it is strictly NY, but apparently there are some strict rules governing the storage & sale of loose powder-777, Pyrodex,etc. Consequently,stores have simply chosen not to sell it; this includes some major retailers as well as the few smaller shops. For the first time ever last month I had to give a copy of my driver's license to purchase 1lb of 777 and am limited to 2 lbs purchase in 30 days,IIRC.
Obviously the predominance of in-line rifles comes into to play as well & forget finding round balls on the shelf.
While I've been striving to do business locally it seems, at least on this front, to have become impossible.
This irks me since it used to be so easy and here's the thing that I'm just waking up to. Forget the "they're trying to take our guns" routine. Nobody is taking any guns; it is much easier to take the ammo.

Well I just left NY after being stationed at Fort Drum in Northern New York. I did like the fact of rifle hunting, having grown up in Ohio, but the restrictions on more and more hunting like this, makes me glad I am back in Ohio. And what's more I can have all the pistols I want even BLACK POWDER! That was what struck me the most, have to get a pistol permit. Nice to have freedom again!

Have not seen this here in Virginia, but being NY this doesn't surprise me any.

There are many anti hunting and shooting movements out there. And while some of them claim they have good intentions.. the do not care who they step on to feed their agenda. They also scream loudly. And use public media to intimidate the representative of the people, that make the laws. One of the problems we as hunters face is ... people have refused to take responsibility for their actions. So in turn, the idea is.. blame someone else and punish or restrict them and everyone else.

First off NY SUCKS, I love the State but Hate who runs it, if I did'nt have all my Family and Home and all here I'd be gone.
Our Wal-Mart used to sell Powder and Pellets, they quit selling them years ago, and even quit selling all firearms execpt for BP MLers. But Wal-Mart has lost BIG money and is going to start selling Rifles and Shotguns again.
I was a little disappointed this fall when I went to my local shop t get some Pyro RS and some Pyro Pellets for the wife only to find they no longer sell them, I asked why and he said it was because of all the Fee's and Rigamarony associated with it, I was lucky to find them at another shop close by.
3seasons is in the part of NY we call the City, they run all of our State and they dont even know we exist in my part of NY, there rules and regulations are much more strict then they are where Im from. But eventually we Country NYers have to deal with whatever happens as to what them City NYers say. If we had our way here we'd cut off that part of NYS from our part and we'd be much better off, our taxes would be cheaper and we would'nt have to pay for everything that goes on in that part of NY.
All I can say is keep Voting in them Democrats in the (City) part of NY and that's what you'll get, a Democratic run NYS.

I hear ya BP. I left NJ back in '66 and didn't look back. My bride is from NY and I know how the city can be nothing more then a blood sucking leech. I hunted in up state for years as a kid with pop and those folks are a different breed of good folks. But the city folks... well I think just about everyone know how they are.

I think the state is regulating your sport into the grave. Can't take our guns, then they can take your ammo or reloading stuff. This will slowly destroy your sport and take your heritage away!!!

JLmoore1956-That's another thing, the pistol permit. I suppose I've remained willfully ignorant figuring that, hey, I live in the Country, we all have guns, & that's the natural course of things...Until I began researching the pistol permit process; IIRC- 5 personal references one of whom must be law enforcement, after the licensing course, & a time-frame as I recall of 6-8 months!! Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

No wonder the criminal element has guns-it's the law abiding citizen who's left hanging!! Who makes these laws?

I don't want to sound like a reactionary here. As I mentioned, willful ignorance coupled with the ignorant bliss of Country Life allowed me to delude myself about reality; it's a rude awakening, I guess.

I couldn't agree more, NY is regulating hunting into an early demi$e. Albany, the capital, where all these decisions are made is @ 30 miles as the crow flies from me-clearly that's a loooooooooong 30 miles!!
Honestly, the thought that ammo, not guns, is the path of least resistance for control just struck me in the past couple months & i am glad to hear this is not the case everywhere.

I just watched a show last night @ Billy the Kid & couldn't help but feel, though not easy by any means, that was a time one could really LIVE. Me, I'm feeling a bit constrained at this point.

Hey BP wal-mart did the same thing here in Missouri also, then this past fall, they put a pencil to the amount of sales they lost($10,000,000) in hunting, and guess what? They started putting all the guns and things back in. Just goes to show you it is all about the dollar. I'm glad that they lost that much, it hopefully will open there eyes all over, so maybe they will get it back in in NY.
