5 shot group didn't fail!

Got the open sight Optima out today at 100 yards with 100gr BH209, 250gr Aerolite and cci mag primers. I took 5 shots at 100 yards with this load and only my first shot was just SLIGHTLY out of the group! The next 4 cuts each other in a straight horizontal line! Im not sure of the group size but when i get back from the range i will post some target pictures.

Also shot 90gr BH209 with those Aerolites and got a pretty decent group but no where close to being sweet like the first go with 100gr BH209! I love this rifle! I honestly think i will never be able to sell it, just one of those guns that shoots so sweet that you're afraid of getting rid of it and never being able to replace it again.

Shooting a bit higher than i wanted so i will take care of that later on. Going out to try 90gr BH209 with the 250gr Thor before i call it quits.

To freakin hot to shoot! 70* with snow on the ground :s8: Almost hot enough to go out shooting in boxers and snow boots.

omegasmoke 01-05-2012 01:27 PM

Do you have the stock sights on that gun or the globe style?

MountainDevil54 01-05-2012 02:05 PM

I use the truglo ghost ring rear and the globe front sight.

Breechplug 01-05-2012 02:32 PM

MountainDevil54 01-05-2012 02:48 PM

hey i got venison steaks on the grille! Taking the time to get the pics off the cam and resizing, uploading, posting them could cause those steaks to burn and then i will be grouchy the entire night :D

quake 01-05-2012 03:06 PM

O.k. then.... well, whatever you do dont burn those damn steaks!

builder459 01-05-2012 03:14 PM

Don't burn them venison steaks. anything more than med rare is wasting them!!

I know.......you'd be surprised at all the people that hunt that dont realize that venison is suppos-to-be cooked so it's pink in the middle, it's not BEEF and should be cooked accordingly.
I've had venison cooked ar friends houses and it was burnt to a crisp and tough as nails, I had to jump in and show em how to properly cook it.
My venison steaks melt in your mouth as do my chops, people swear there eating steak when they try it, Im like, it's close but Better.

MountainDevil54 01-05-2012 03:46 PM

So dinner is done? :poke:

HA

Breechplug 01-05-2012 05:04 PM

I just put a tad of blackpepper and a touch of seasoned salt on em, cooked to med-rare and melt in your mouth tender. If it was Prime Rib it would be Rare. I dont like to hide the flavor of the meat with any flavor additive.

Out west here we can buy mesquite and that's all i BBQ with, regardless of the meat.i have never owned a gas grill and never will lol.sometimes i marinade my venison and other times it's just sea salt and pepper. try mc cormicks peppercorn and garlic marinade..

MountainDevil54 01-05-2012 05:31 PM

Im gettin it im gettin it. Ray i even took a couple special pics for you since its been some time :D

MountainDevil54 01-05-2012 05:55 PM

Okay heres the pics.

It was a beautiful 70* day in the mud pit as you can see.

3 shots on the right are with 90gr BH209 - 250gr Powerbelt Aerolite and that big hole is 5 shots with 100gr BH209 - 250gr Aerolite.

The "high" shot in the 5 shot group was my first shot on a clean barrel.

quake 01-05-2012 06:10 PM

Good shooting. I like those sights you have on that Optima.

It looks like you need to put some rock down under that table- all that mud would drive me crazy haha. Hard to believe it's January, huh?

Breechplug 01-05-2012 06:19 PM

MD, You da Man! a 5 shot group like that at a 100yds with open sights, I would'nt ever sell that sucker either! That's a group I get every once in awhile with my Accura V1 with my Leupold Ultimate Slam MLer Scope set on 6 power at a 100yds.
My Accura is a sweet shooter also, one I'll never sell. I love the Bergara Barrel's Im sure there one of the reasons for the superior accuracy out of the CVA's.
Im trying for a (I dont know what you'd call it when all your bullets hit togeather) mabey a 0" group at a 100yds, but so far I get 3 and 4 touching and one or two that just is a 1/4" away from the other's. When I get em all touching at 100yds I'll post a Pic.
Nice Shooting MD! I'd put My CVA Accura up against anyother Mler for a shoot off, if it did'nt shoot this good I would'nt be using it I'd be shooting something different. I hunt only with a MLer 100% of the time, and if it does'nt give me 100% I wont use it. Too bad there's only a handfull of CVA shooters on here who know what the New BPI is all about.

builder459 01-05-2012 06:37 PM

Jon, it's always a special treat when your mug is in your photos :rolleye0011: if those targets were at 100 yds, that's some fine shooting.

Breechplug 01-05-2012 06:42 PM

Ya MD, who's taking the Pics?????????

ATV fender holds the camera and then i set the cam for a 10 second delay.

Tomorrow i am going to zero in with the 250 Thors.

MountainDevil54 01-05-2012 07:09 PM

I agree with the rock on the ground part! I figured i will deal with it until i can build a cement shooting table like the NRA has and then put some retainer wall brick around that and fill it with a few inches of gravel.

Breechplug 01-05-2012 07:27 PM

MD you need a significant other who thinks your Da Man the way you shoot, mabey you should part with one of them Venison Steaks and butter her up and she'll take them pics:)

MountainDevil54 01-05-2012 07:31 PM

ahhh, i haven't had a girl friend that enjoyed shooting since 2004. Haven't had a girl friend either that could cook, some tried but failed, so im the one that does all the cooking and shooting. They just don't make 'em like they used to i tell ya! Gotta find one of those cult girls that were trained by their uncles or something :D

A tripod or the atv trailer will work for now, a lot less of a headache in the long run.

No worries MD, I do all the Cooking, but the wife does hunt, and yea she's a good ol Country Girl......but dont mess with her!
The one pic is her by the Gun Safe, dont ask me why she had to do that, the other is showing she can still drag out a Deer, a true Country Girl.

MountainDevil54 01-05-2012 08:00 PM

good grief her guns are bigger n mine.

Why haven't you chromed that pole shes swinging around? Don't you know she would get a paint chip stuck in her hand? :D

You got a good wife! Shes more than welcome to drag deer or elk out for me, im just to skinny and weak to do it myself.

gregrn43 01-05-2012 11:52 PM

BP with cannons like that I bet you say yes mam.

omegasmoke 01-06-2012 04:10 AM

Those globe sights make all the difference in the world. It's real tough to get a good group like that without globe sights at 100 yds. I'm glad I bought a set. I would'nt hunt without them now.

MountainDevil54 01-06-2012 06:52 AM

They do make a huge difference for me as well. I could easily get by with the factory sights but the globe is just so much clearer with my eyes.

Darn dog woke me up with his barking so i sent a 7.62x54 over him and that shut him up. That dog was kissing the ground so close when it went off he could have been part of the road :D

Time to go shoot the Optima now i guess.

HuntAway 01-06-2012 06:56 AM

Great shooting MD!!!:hail:

Hope we didn't disturb your dinner too much.:)

HA

MountainDevil54 01-06-2012 06:58 AM

if you didn't hear a 7.62 comin over head, you didn't disturb me :D LOL.

gman57 01-06-2012 07:29 AM

I wish I shot that well with a scoped rifle MD ,my Accura gets a couple touching but no way that many I can always count on a flyer...That 70* sounds nice gonna get me some in sunny Southern Cali next week .

MountainDevil54 01-06-2012 09:16 AM

well i got the Thors shooting 1 3/4" for 3 shots at 100 yards. I have wind today directly in my face and it keeps drying out my eye and turning the target fuzzy. I figured that was plenty accurate. Shooting high still but no biggy, take care of that later on.

Time to take the Wolf out now that i have the stock tightened up again and see how it does.
