None of mine have a pillar, just bedded from in front of the trigger to in front on the recoil lug. It keeps the action from wiggling in the stock. It takes a bit of sanding to get the barrel to float all the way as I like more clearance than most.

Josmund, be careful. If you putty up the fork, you will block the ramrod from fully seating in the stock.
