You might find that lower charge with the heavier bullet could produce some very good velocitys because of the progressive burn of the powder we all might find that if we lower our charges and use tighter fitting bullet ,sabot combos if could save some money on powder in the long run cause powder is usually the most exp part of the equation

With the 460 gr I was planning on only about 75 gr of powder , especially with the rifle being so light. :s2: maybe I will try some Blackhorn with it afterall.

Just saying a tighter fit might take advantage of the progressive burn rate a little better didn't have anything to do with ignition Just burning the powder charge more complete and not just throwing partial burnt charge out of the barrel

I would definitely use a shot card or wad when using Bh209 and a conical since it burns hot and may very well melt the rear portion of the bullet.1000 shot cards from Track the wolf are $7.50.i would gladly send you some, but the ones i have are .50 cal.post up your results.i would use BH in the wolverine, if it wasn't a open breech rifle.
And I think it has already been mentioned but because of BH's progressive burning capabilities and the weight of the projectile you are proposing - reducing the powder weight is the prudent thing to do. Do you have a chrono? |
