Herman, I had two of them. Wasn' t impressed. Sold one to a friend because he had to have it. He doesn' t shoot " groups" . Sold the other to a fellow in Alaska.

Hey underclocked,I am figurering it is the same with it as the encore,I went to the range one day and tried the new sst' s in it got one group of 1.06 in went back a couple days later and shot all day with every bullet type I had and didn' t get one decent group.so I came home cleaned it ,oiled it and put it in a vacum bag and sealed and threw it in the closet.Really cannot figure out why it won' t shoot .shooting the same bullets I shoot in my 50 with the same twist .Put the 50 cal barrel on and shot 2, groups less than an in @ 100.
Little pullezed on the 50 though,I am shooting the barnes 195 and the sst 200 in the same sabot as with the pr 200 dead center, get less than an inch with the sst and barnes but the dead centers jump out to 2in or better sometimes I get a little better but it is the least constant of the 3.
Think I will just stick with the 50 and wait and see what the savage 45 looks like when they come out.

Herman,

I think the issue with your .50 can be summed up in 1 word.............." Length" .
Fast twist barrels need long bullets to stabilize well - and since copper is lighter than lead, copper bullets like the Barnes or copper-jacketed bullets like the SSTs are longer than the pure lead DCs for any given length.

To be honest - this is probably the same problem with your .45 too. IMHO, just about ALL of the bullet offerings for the .45s are just too darn short (light) to work well, ESPECIALLY if you have a 1:28" twist in your .45.

Thanks Mark, but with the 50 cal between the barnes and the pr bullet is only .021 in difference.that maybe be enough to make the groups open up,but the 240 gr pr bullet it is 1.000 in long, but won' t shoot tight groups like the barnes shorter bullet .970.
I haven' t tried the xtp bullets in my encore because I want a lighter bullet to shoot in it,But I have a Ruger 77/50 and it shoots tight groups with the xtp bullets from 180 to 250 gr,and the length of the 200 is not much more than the dia,of the bullet.Read somewhere that the bullet needs to be 2x the dia to stablize.
I n the 45 with a 1:20 &1:28 in twist haven' t gotten any thing to shoot in it and have tried cleanshot, pyrodex.and t-7 from 70 to 150 grs,in 2f and 3F.with bullets 150 gr to 240 grs and haven' t found anything it likes compared to what I am wanting to shoot.
Now it might shoot big heavy bullets great but that is not what I bought it for.I have a knight and Ruger to shoot them in,but don' t shoot anything heavier than a 250 gr bullet in them.Hope you don' t think I am being a smart a--,just telling what I experience, and hope someone can use the info.I have gotten lots of very good info from the board myself.

No problem, herman.

The personal experiences of all the good folks here is like gold in the pocket.
Good Luck on figuring out that .45 - it would be a big help to a lot of folks to hear what ends up working.

That' s why Knight went to a 1-30ish" twist with it' s new 45s.. they' re less fussy about various bullets. If your 45 is a 1-20, get yourself a Limbsaver recoil pad, fast igniting 777 powder, some heavy 400+grain conicals & knock those deer skyward... as been reported by some folks using those Power Punches & No Excuse bullets. Ya gotta shoot what the rifle likes... or ya' better-off selling it if you' re recoil-sensitive.

T-7,I am recoill sensitive to a point,I have shot up to 150 grs in the encore,as I said I want to shoot lighter bullets in the encore in 50 and 45.Inclosing a pic of how I got a Knight disc ,with a 1:20 twist,to shoot at 100 with a light 225 bulet.Took a deer at 155 yds with it and it dropped in its tracks. It shot about as good as my encore 50 cal.
Have had one of those recoil pads ordered for about 4 months and they keep sending one for a fiber stock my is a wooden stock, and they work have one on my 270 wsm.

I' ve got a Sims pad I' ll sell ya! Putting my factory pad back on. The Sims pads seem to fit well on everybody else' s rifles. Mine must be a little fat at the end as the Sims leaves stock overhanging on both sides. The factory pad fits well though. ??
I emailed Sims about this, never got a responce.

Oops, didn' t catch that last post, mine is also a synthetic stock model.
