Default CVA Mountain Stalker and new bullets

Wanted to get some shooting in before the snow hits. Already gray out and COLD.

Started off with 70gr Pyrodex RS and the 320gr REALs at 50 yards. Perfect height but to the left. After i poured the powder down the bore and started to push the bullet down it hit me that i forgot to use a wad on the first shot as well as the second shot that i was loading. Took 3 shots and they were all perfectly lined up but a good 3" spread. Not good!

Took 4 shots with 70gr American Pioneer 3f and dead on but a good deal to the left. Excellent group however!

Loaded up the new 454's along with 70gr American Pioneer 3f. First shot was dead on but to the left, took shots 2 and 3 and nothing on the paper! Noticed some mud on the target and i look down a foot in front of the target and the bullets were impacted super low! Must not like APP with this big slug.

Going back out now to try 70gr RS with the 454 and see how she does then.

oh yeah! Right in the there at 50 yards with 70gr RS and that 454 conical. This rifle does seem to foul up pretty quickly for some reason though. Dead on the first shot, clean bore. Next 2 drift over a bit to the left and a great deal stiffer to work down the bore. I think i will spend some time tonight with the polishing cloth and bore the bore over good. They shot real good though. I will try 75 yards next and see what im going to have to do with the sights.

Don't be a wimp. 100gr BH 209 will drive them right in there.

Along with your shoulder out of it's socket.

oh god! 100gr of pyrodex would kill me with the recoil and shock running through that 6lb plastic stock It left my ear buzzing with just 70gr RS.

The rifle is close to being where she should be. Have to go a bit over to the right and i should have it.

Top 3 shots were the 320 REAL without wads. I simply forgot to use them and by the time i caught on, it was to late.

Next 4 shots were with 70gr American Pioneer 3f and the 320 REAL with wads. The pattern simply amazes me, i kept looking through the binos after each shot taking take and just kept shaking my head in wonder. I ain't ever seen one group like this before, but shes consistent and accurate so that's all i care about.

454GR Lee conical with 70gr Pyrodex RS, Lubed wad. First shot was left, but as the bore got fouled, she liked to drift to the left. Still a decent group but i am always looking to improve. Its hard to judge the true accuracy at my 50 yard range due to the wobbly table, so 75 and 100 yards are the true tests of the bullets accuracy.

Jon try a light swab between shots and don't lube the wad with that 454 gr bullet.that 1:32 should shoot that bullet well, with somewhere between 70-80 gr pyrodex. what's the bullet like loading? i would try the .454 gr without a wad also, if you haven't already.

all my wads are dipped in hot lube and then allowed to dry, the dry lubes just never worked for me for some darn reason.

Loading the 454 is basically like a slip fit but one that fits juuuuust a tiny bit snugger.

Corey, i'll give the REALs a try in the cva hawken 50 of mine. I dont plan on trying the 454s as the hawken has a curved brass buttplate LOL.
