Apology accepted. To be honest, if I knew how the mark got there, I would probably know if it is a sctatch or a crack. All I know, is I went to the range and shot 2 shots without swabbing inbetween shots. I did run som wet patches down it before I put it in the case. I noticed the crack when I was puting it in the case. I did not drop it, it did not fall off the bench, nothing. So I figured the only thing it could be is I either scratched it when I was swabbing it, or it cracked when I took one of the shots. But I dont remember seeing it "while" I was swabbing it either. So I think it happened some how between swabbing, and puting it in the case.

Then I would definitely have it checked out. You know you didn't drop it, and that is about the only other way it could have happened.

I hope it works out OK for you. And if it is cracked then they would probably send you another rifle. But I certainly would not take a chance with it. Safety is far too important. Tom.

easily just a nasty scratch guys. Zoom in on it and you'll see that there are multiple scratches. The main scratch you can see the frame is boogered up a bit and then a deep scratch towards the front that tapers off

Because I stated the obvious, that gun is nsty dirty and even pitted. I have never seen one that bad, without looking down the barrel.

Are you playing the caped crusader now, trying to get some groupies back??

The subject was about the scratch. I looked at nothing else to be honest. He was just at the range so the gun would of been dirty. BTW, it's better that you have all the support and not me. The threads will be alot shorter.

The difference here is I don't want or need support, I am not the shill. Not trying to sell anyone, anything! Maybe you should call knight and see if they will take care of it, for him.

in bigdaddys defense on the pitting on the face of the frame, thats actually what happens with loose head spacing. All the stuff blows back and pits it. My first optima has a small amount of pitting. Its stopped since ive adjusted my headspace. That primer carbon is a PITA to get off, i used to have to use oiled steel wool and over time, removed the nickel finish off that part of the frame. No biggy as the natural color matches but thats why you see the pitting. He has since then adjusted the headspace from what i can see.

For what is worth - i to believe it to be a scratch - I copied your picture and instered into a program I have - Isoloated the area magnified that and rotated it so I could see the face of the frame - Scratch

I would also indicate to you - I beleive it is very easy to scartch that type of frame. It is not that hard and the opaque surface can easily rubbed through.

my 2 cents..

Not a bad idea, he would really enjoy a new Knight rifle. Good idea endeavor.
