Doe with Bonded Shock Wave
4 Attachment(s)
I have used these for years as my long range hunting bullet and I have heared some ask about there effectiveness. I have found them to act very similar to the Deep Curl and have taken over a dozen game animals with them. There are a lot of good bullets out there but few haave the high BC of the Bonded 250 gr Shock Wave.
The first pic is the entrance hole. the second is the entrace hole from inside the other two are the Exit hole from inside and out. This doe hobble out in front of my stand with a broken leg I actually intended to wait for a buck I have been trying to get a shot at but I thought it best to drop her. |
Man that slug must have expanded plenty after hitting that rib to blow a hole thru the opposited side like that. Pretty devastating.

How hard are you pushing them? Also how far was the deer? That is an impressive wound. I bet it never moved after getting hit. If it did, there had to be a blood trail.
|
Perhaps I should mention the load and the gun. The gun was my Endeavor with an Omega Nikon on it. The load was 120 grains of Blackhorn 209 and a Short Black Harvester sabot with the 250 grain Bonded Shock Wave.
Yes Bronko they do open up but in all the game I have taken with them I have never found any shrapnel only the big hole out the other side and the deer or boar laying there with in 20 yards of where I shot it. |
cayugad
120 gr of Blackhorn my chrony says it averages 2090 FPS. The deer took a couple of hops there was a swath of blood and a few pieces of what I think was heart on the far side of where I hit her and two or 3 plate size spots of blood then the deer she moved less than 20 yds. |
Good elk load.

i used the regular 250gr shockwaves for a couple yrs, an had good luck with them. but 1 yr for christmas my wife picked me up the bonded version shockwave, an i thought i would try them out during Va's late mz season......1 morning a doe stood broadside at appox 75-80yds but she was standing in a briar thicket an really only left me a neck shot......when i pulled the trigger on the omega she ran about 40yds an layed down a died a short while later....entrance wound was in the neck, an afer skinning the deer found the bullet in her hip, the polymer tip was gone an only 2 of the petals bent back.after that i just was not happy with that bullet..surely 105grs of pyrodex select was plenty to make that puppy expand more.

what was the distance?that bullet did a number on that deer!
|
By laser range finder 48 yds.

Wow, Lee thats an impressive wound channel. I've been shooting the bonded SW"s for a couple of years out of my Elite and I like them as well. I have not had that kind of expansion out of my rifle. I am shooting 100gr of 777 out of the Elite. Congratulations on your doe.
