Default Gorgeous night

Got home from work and got into my huntng clothes and headed for one of my tree stands. About 5:00 I had 4 turkey walk past about 25 yds. Then a bit later a couple squirrels worked around me gathering acorns. And just before dark a big bodied deer, almost positive it was a buck was slipping thru the cover about 75-80 yds out. I could only catch glimses of it - almost shadow like here and there. I had to wait until pitch dark to get out. Maybe I got lucky and didn't spook him on my way out. I never heard it running off or snorting at me. Of course it could have been 30 yds away watching me and I never would have seen it. It was cloudy so I had no moon light to help and I didn't want to use my flashlight, even with the red lens cause I could see well enough not to walk into a tree.

I had one hen turkey walk by tonight around 4:00 pm and of course the normal birds. I was not hunting.. just walking in the woods. At least you saw a deer that might be worth hunting. That always helps waiting the next day .... easier.

I hate that when one pops out right before dark and you cant see it good. I sat one night over an hour after dark waiting on deer to leave so I wouldnt spook them. I carry a yote howler with me now for that purpose. Been using it for several years now, works really good and doesnt seem to spook the deer all that bad and they will leave the plot.
