It is not a really good smokeless powder at that but it is great for a ML. One of the problems they had was to make it bulky enough that it would meter in a volume measure along with the regular BP products.
BH does contain a small amount of potassium nitrate and sulphur which does effect how the powder operates but it also makes it a bit more of a challenge to clean up than regular smokeless powders.

I did know it was a smokeless powder that was detuned to BP velocities. I set off Omega45 by saying that once. I'm guessing he won't say a word to you.
I didn't know what the ingredients were though. How did you find this out?
So, we have a mix of ingredients that don't fit either BP or smokeless as far as cleaning is concerned. I knew something was funny. Both smokeless and BP are easier to clean on their own. A combo of both? Not so much.

Also do not get me wrong BH is an extremly good ML sub powder and an extremly anemic smokeless - but it has to be that way for it to qualify as a sub.
The progressive burning nature of the powder makes it much more potent (efficient might be the better word) as you go up in bullet weight.
Remember when Western said the powder was non corrosive. as time went on and the chemical properties were brought out - it became apparent the powder residue is a VERY mild corrosive. Western does not make the powder, General Dynamics of Canada makes the powder and uses Western as the sole Distributor. As time and use has gone on Western has learned a lot more about the powder.
