Walking in the Woods

Dave we have some pretty thick stuff out here and we have some really steep stuff... which can really be bad if you do not anchor with the first shot. We do not however have to worry about big marshy lands. And obviously most public land is logged and some form of access exists.
In this case this area is a saddle area with a gated logging haul road - maybe 75 yards to the north and a second muddy haul road 200 yards to the south. So if I were forced to drag it could be done.
At my aga and my hunting buddies age - I hate to admit this we always have to consider access as a factor - especially hunting elk... So we do not always get to the prime spots anymore - just our favorite good spots...
Can you imagine dragging this out... Or even quartering it and packing it out... It was almost a mile back up hill... thank gosh for these gas powered packers...

That's one reason I shoot large lead. I want that deer anchored. I want him or her to die on my ATV trail. I have the same problem. When I was younger, I can remember my Dad hauling me along on hunts because I could "drag" so well. But now, with bad knees, bad back, and goodness knows what all else, an ATV is a real blessing.

That sure looks like some nice hunting area. Shooting an elk back in the wilds would be a real chore. That's why when I elk hunted I hired a guide that did all that for me...

Looks like a nice spot. Last year I bowshot a doe while hunting by myself. I was in the mountains of Virginia. I nailed her, she went 10 yards, stood on the edge of a serious drop into a valley and then keeled over and slid to the bottom. I would pull and sit, pull and sit to get her up that hill.I should of just quartered her up. Blackpowder is 2 weeks away and I cant wait.
