minor mistake when I bought powder
 

I set down, getting ready for my range session tomorrow. I just bought another pound of triple 7. I was not paying attention. I picked up 3f and not 2f (minor mistake lol)

do i need to drop my charge amounts for 3f any or can I use the same amounts as 2f? I am only using 75grs of triple 7 2f.

I have enough 2f for 2 maybe 3 ranges sessions but I am feeding two guns with it.

my 54 likes 3f and I didn't drop the charge. I shoot 110 in it.

oh, forgot to say the type of bullets.

45cal: lee improved minie, real, and powerbelts*

50cal: saboted bullets, lee reals (250 and 320gr), and powerbelts*

I use pyrodex P it is the same as 3f. in your side locks you will like it. It has a faster ignition. Ron

The answer is..........if you want the same charge you had with 2F. Use 10gr less of the 3F.

You can still use 75 gr of the 3F, but it will have more power.

Yes, 3F burns faster than 2f because with the same charge there is more surface. And faster burning = higher pressure=higher velocity. So 75 gr of 3f vs 75 gr of 2f your POI may change and your accuracy may also be different (better or worse). You never know, you may like the 3F better. I have 2 sidelocks that eat up Pyro P which is basically the same (a .45 and a 50)and one that likes BP FFFg.

I am going to be heading to the range. one muzzleloader. i have some bullets to test. if it works out. i will be add 10 more shots of 3f.

I have always found that 3F seems to burn a little cleaner too

the last couple can s of tripple seven i have bought have been 3f i like it seems to kick slighty more probally from the quicker burn . been getting good accuracy from it also.

There was a thread in this forum that showed that there was a contradiction when the velocity of 777 ffg was compared to the velocity of 777 fffg in a rifle.
It was a surprise that the 777 ffg produced the higher velocity when chronographed.
That may be because 777 doesn't like to be compacted, and the ffg is harder to compact.
That's what makes muzzle loading really interesting. There's exceptions to rules, and the performance of 777 fffg contradicted the rule that applies to all of the other powders. At least in that case it did.
