sabots for sidelocks

Who is using a sabot in their sidelocks opposed to round balls or conicals , is this an option I need to try
Any advantages or disadvantages to using them
They are a .45 cl with a plastic sleeve correct ?
Any recommended brands or loads for a .50

It's definitely worth a try Brknarrow. You just never know what a particular barrel will do.

I no longer have any 1:48 twist barrels, so don't have any recent experience. But several years ago I tried a few sabot loads in a New Englander with so-so results. Though, as I recall, I only tried one bullet weight it it. I also had a Pedersoli .50 caliber Dixie Cub with a 1:48 twist that shot 250 grain XTPs in H5045SB sabots quite well.

If you want a definite sabot shooting sidelock, get yourself a 1:28 twist Green Mountain LRH (Long Range Hunter) barrel for one of those Renegades. That barrel will make you smile for sure.

Here's the best 100 yard target I've shot with my peep sighted TC Hawken with a LRH barrel.

This baffles me.

Please tell me your motive for buying a sidelock?

Sorry my mistake. I meant "just to baffle people on here. "

No motive at all just asking a question, wasn't sure if this was common practice or not, just an attempt to save some time and money if there was some benefit, basically both rifles will be used for hunting and prob a max range of 75 yards

I can't tell you Brknarrow's motive Muley. But I can tell you mine. I just plain like sidelocks.

If you're questioning why shoot anything other than a round ball out of a sidelock, there are several possible answers;

(1) Because I want to.
(2) Because I can.
(3) Because a sabotted bullet is a heck of a lot more effective than a round ball.
(4) Because it doubles a sidelock's range.
(5) Because I don't have any hang-ups over it.
(6) Because I want to.
(7) Because I want to.
(8) Because I want to. :s2:

A PRB will kill anything at 75 yds, and your gun along with you will be smiling when you do.
