I haven't had a single issue with the Bore Conditioner either. I pop 2-3 primers, run a dry patch and then load up. First shot POI is fine and 2 of the 3 first shots are touching fairly often.

If im really concerned about any oil in the bore i use a little brake cleaner on a patch first.

If you swab down with a primer in the pocket though it could contaminate the primer or cause a tiny bit to flow into the flash hole. WD40 for example will neutralize a primer in no time.

The three times I tried it I put alittle bit on the patch and ran it through the bore without the breech plug in. Stuck my finger in so the oil wouldn't get in threads of the bore. You could tell that it was coated but not heavy. Before I shot I ran a couple of dry patches and got nothing it was clean and dry. I don't know what to make of it, but that is whats happening. I wish that it would work, but then again the TC17 cleaning products do have a rust preventative so I don't know if its a big deal you use it anyways in my inline.

Top six ingredients in Hoppes...I think the main one that sticks out to me, is the cintronella

30-40 Kerosene
30-40 Ethyl Alcohol
Less than 10 Xylene
Less than 10 Amyl Acetate
Less than 10 Ammonium Hydrochloride
Less than 10 Citronella

so whacha guys think about water based cleaners for BH209?

I shot my .45 Elite 9 times tonight. I ran 2 dry patches (both sides) then ran both sides of a TC presaturated #13 patch down and out followed by both sides of a dry patch. Spotless. Followed it up with a lightly coated patch of Montana X-Treme Bore Conditioner. Its resting comfortably in the safe now.

I used Montana X-Treme BH209 solvent when I first started shooting BH209 and it is some potent stuff. Potent enough the Mrs. will leave the room! :guiness: Hoppes cleans just as well though with a more pleasant smell.

Have you tried the Cowboy blend? Its made for cowboy action shooters and it should work great for BH209 too. Many of them use subs or dirtier smokeless powders and no copper bullets. So it probably does not contain ammonia based chemicals but i dont know for sure.

BH209 basically fits that description and most MLs are not shooting copper full bore bullets.

BTW Western, Ramshot and Montana products are all owned by the same company or tightly connected.

They are all owned by the same company/guy. One guy started it all and he still is a very active part in day to day operations.

I'm not sure what they had in mind by calling it Cowboy, but CAS shooters who use subs use soap and water to clean.
