Musket Caps in a Knight DISC Extreme with Western Kit
#1
Probably the only people that might be interested in this are the ML hunters in the Pacific Northwest where we can not use 209 ignition.
But Knight does make a Western Kit to allow the Knight DISC Extreme to shoot either #11 caps or Musket caps. The new Western Kit has been modified was the addition of a protective hood on the bolt. The hood has cause some concern about the ability to post a Musket cap. #11's are not a problem at all...
So for information...
There has been some question as to whether you can cap the new Knight Western Kit with a Musket cap... short answer - yes! But, it needs to be the right capper. Most of the plastic type Musket cappers on the market will not work, they are to large to get into the opening of the hood of the bolt.
The Tedd Cash brass capper will work to install musket caps on the nipple post...

With a slight modification to the brass nose of the capper it will even be more convienient to use.
Here is a set of pictures showing the the process using my Knight DISC Extreme 52 cal elk gun.

I discovered the same thing about the plastic straight line ones when I tried to use them in some of my inlines with scopes. Also the cheap ones I got on sale have weak springs and tend to drop the top hats. Plus the plastic ones are too fat and the bottom part sits to high to get a top hat on easy. You have to monkey around to much.
I am wondering if you could not modify a dog bone capper to make it fit musket caps? If you look at the red plastic dog bone cappers, the musket cap sits in the same place a 209 primer would, but you'd have to drill out the back side, just a hair smaller so it would hold the top hat more secure and bring it closer to the face of the capper. I really think it would work. But since I seldom shoot musket caps except on my Black Mountain Magnum and my Staghorn... I have never converted one.

I think the biggest reason is they do not use cappers they place their musket caps with thier fingers and it is easier to handle than a #11.

Yup, they are much easier to handle if you don't use a capper. And you can light your cigar with them.
I bought some just to try them in my White Whitetail. It seemed to make things even dirtier than normal.

Mike, the western kit is a good idea for those people in the north west shooting knight bolts. i also was pleased when they kept the bighorn in there line up for the north west shooter and the old school folks like Art

I'm a musket cap fan-especially rws caps. I have always found that I can reload and put a new cap on much faster then using number 11's. I never use a capper when hunting. My speed loader has a bullet and musket cap in one in and I can be ready for a second shot mighty fast.

i almost forgot the lil horns, another great offering and IMHO the perfect length LOP for young shooters and small framed men and women.the fact that you can fit it with another full size stock later at a reasonable price is another plus.if Knight made the bighorn in a .45 cal 1:30 twist, i would seriously consider buying one for conical shooting..Ray
