It's BASS PRO SHOP'S OUTDOOR WORLD guy's! You don't like going there? I like going there, even if I don't need anything.

HEAD0001 07-17-2011 12:52 AM

Someone earlier mentioned that it is a law that a Hazmat fee needs to be charged. I do not think it is a law. I think it is a mandate by the shippers. Just like the way they make you pay for overnight delivery of a handgun.

Second. Does anyone know what the actual Hazmat charge is?? If you notice the distributors call it a "Hazmat Fee". Not a charge. So what is the actual charge?? Probably less than we are charged.

Third. I do not know about black powder. However alot of places charge only one "Hazmat Fee". And they ship smokeless powder and primers in the same box, and with just one fee.

There are far too many games being played with shipping charges. And handling charges. And whatever charges they want to charge you.

If the guy is shipping one container of BH-209 for $27 TYD then he is not making a bunch of money on it. Regardless whether he is paying a Hazmat charge or not. Even though I really do not know what that actual charge really is. Does anyone out there really know??

Only thing I know for sure is that he obviously is not paying a $25 Hazmat Fee+plus the actual shipping, and still selling one container for $27. That just makes common sense. So obviously he has found some sort of shipping loop hole. I say good for him. And also good for you if you can buy it delivered for that price. Sort of a WIN WIN scenario. Tom.

You are right there! I tend to stop there every time I am going by it for any reason. In fact, my wife always refers to the time we came close to missing a plane because I stopped there on the way "just for a few minutes" LOL.

MountainDevil54 07-17-2011 08:09 AM

UPS does offer a daily shipment program. I bought a 40lb drill press and it shipped for under $6.

It is a 'fee' started by UPS and then followed by Fex Ex.

Just wanted to point out that this isn't true. I know some places rip you off and want to charge you 2 hazmat fee's, but they certainly don't have to and are just ripping you off. Infact, most of the reputable companies like Powder Valley will ship both items together under one hazmat fee.

I find myself wondering what other powders and what types of #11 caps they carry. I couldn't find anything on their website. It seems they would be good people to deal with.

Your absolutely correct.they claim the fee covers the cost to train employees how to properly handle these types of materials and special labeling. bottom line is that is pure BS, they choose to handle these products and the cost should be absorbed by them. they hide from this fact and blame it on the fed for requiring the training and labeling..sit and think about $20.00 per shipment by millions upon millions of shipments per year.( sticking it to us) sorry but this kind of thing just pisses me off. it's the type of thing the banks do to generate huge profits...Ray

Exactly. That is why I said in my post that it WAS NOT a law as was suggested in a post above. Tom.

flounder33 07-19-2011 09:47 AM

I talked to Carlos. $24.99 on the Triple 7 so no deals there. I asked him about the Knights and he said he may sell them in the future, he ordered one for himself and has been waiting and waiting for it to come.

hubby11 08-12-2011 06:18 AM

I know that this is an old post. Just wanted to say that I ordered some BH209 from Carlos at Ed's Guns. A little worried about giving my CC info over the phone based on an internet post, but figured I'd take a chance, since my local options are $35 plus tax (40 min drive) and $31 plus tax (2 hour drive).

Made the phone call Monday, the powder was waiting at my door last night (Thursday). Two bottles, 54 bucks to my door, literally.

I think I am going to be shooting a bit more if this deal holds up.:cool2:

1shotmakeitcount 08-12-2011 08:26 AM

Just placed an order for 2 bottles. I had to spell everything out to Carlos haha but as long as I get it I'll be happy :)

MountainDevil54 08-12-2011 10:19 AM

Hes almost out of his 100lb order again. He said they placed a 500lb order this time and will be waiting for it to arrive.

zakjak711 08-12-2011 11:56 AM

IMHO hazmat fees are scams.
Can the extra paperwork really justify what they charge?
I work for RR and we ship hazmat materials all the time--No extra charge! But there is extra paperwork & precations.

Same experience here. But as long as your clearly give Carlos your info, you will get your powder. And pretty fast too.

HEAD0001 08-22-2011 09:09 PM

Is this fellow still selling powder?? I might try 2 jugs of it if I can order it in the next day or so. Thanks, Tom.

gman57 08-22-2011 09:35 PM

Give Carlos a call his numbers and work days are in a previous post once you order you will have it quick..

MountainDevil54 08-23-2011 06:26 AM

BH209 Delivery Update

I received the bp 5 business days after ordering it so not bad. Here's a big thing though, clearly spell everything out to Carlos and make sure he understands you and vice versa, I thought we were on the same page but yet he still managed to miss-spell a couple of things but luckily I still got the package :guiness:

P.S. I had to put the pint of guinness in there cause now I can sit back, relax and enjoy the stuff since I received the order haha

chaded 08-24-2011 06:53 AM

Glad you got everything ok. I don't think anyone but you had any doubts at all. Not sure if your on any other forums but he is and one thing you could do if your worried about that kind of thing in the future is to just give him a PM him with what you want and your name and address. Just a thought.

chaded 08-24-2011 10:40 AM

Just got my BH209 today. Ordered on Monday here on Wednesday. Another great transaction with Carlos.

HEAD0001 08-24-2011 03:39 PM

I called them today. They said they were out of powder. They said they should have some in a week or so. Tom.

zakjak711 08-25-2011 03:59 PM

I ordered my three bottles and got them within 3-5 days.
A great find!!

nchawkeye 08-25-2011 05:42 PM

I know!! I know!! You are right. But these guys got me fired up on this BH-209 powder and I have a few dollars burning a hole in my shorts. So Iam gonna try it. I hope it does what they say.

I got a big fat doe picked out for the Sept. 19th opener here in WV. My freezer is completely out of deer meat. And my canning shelf is empty of canned deer meat. So I am having withdrawals!!

I hope this guy get his powder in quick. I am running out of time. It is going to take me a good week to practice and get this rifle ready(not really but it sounds good). Tom.

Omega45 08-26-2011 12:43 AM

The "BIG" shipment of BH209 should be in beginning of next week. Not Ed's Gun Shops fault by no means.

Tom,
Are you close to any of these shops that carry it to get a jug to play with while you wait? I definitely know the price will be higher though. My bro in law paid $40 a jug last year at a shop on 119 close to Point Marion, PA.

nchawkeye 08-26-2011 01:23 AM

Is that Ed's Gun Shop down here in NC???

chaded 08-26-2011 01:48 AM

Yeah its in Vass, NC

nchawkeye 08-26-2011 02:03 AM

Gotcha...I've met Carlos, he works the gun shows for Ed's...

The closest is the Wheeling Cabela's. It is about 1-1/4 hours away. I might have a friend going up this weekend. I hope. Tom.

Omega45 08-26-2011 02:03 PM

I talked to Carlos today. The BH209 is suppose to be at his shop on Monday according to Western Powders.

Is there a Gander Mtn in Morgantown or Fairmont? They carry it for $35 at the Gander Mtn by me.

HEAD0001 08-29-2011 03:31 PM

I was going to call Carlos today and forgot all about it. Anyone know if their BH powder came in today(Monday)?? Thanks, Tom.
