Finally shot the Pro Hunter
#1
I was going to post this a couple days ago but just haven't had a chance.
Last Tuedsay I finally got a chance to get out and shoot the Pro Hunter. It wasn't such a great day, but not the guns fault it turns out.
I had bought some .429 225 gr. FTX's to try. I wanted something heavier but they were out of them and I figured whatever was left I could reload for the Model 94. I was using green CR sabots and 90 gr. BH209. Started at 50 yards and the first shot was about 10 inches low. Adjusted the scope up 12 inches (I thought) and fired again. I was still about 6 inches low. Hmmm. Adjusted the scope 4 inches left. Next shot was good for height but still about 4 inches right.
Long story short I spent the next almost hour trying to figure out how to adjust a scope. I thought there was no way I was that dumb that I couldn't do that. It all became clear on shot #20. Fired, heard an odd noise and looked through the scope again. I couldn't see anything. Tried the different power settings and still couldn't see anything. Figured it was a good time to call it a day. When I took my ear muffs off and moved the gun I could hear pieces of broken glass moving around in it.
I emailed Bushnell and told them my problem. I recieved an computer generated response saying I needed to send the scope in to be evaluated. On my days off I'll send it off and see what happens.
On the plus side, I fired 20 shots with no swabbing. Drilled the breech plug out about every 6 shots. I can't speak for accuracy. Clean up was maybe a little quicker, though I don't know if it was as much as I had hoped for. The breech area of the Pro Hunter was by far cleaner than any muzzleloader I'd shot before. I did miss the smoke and smell of Pyrodex, and every time I spilled a few grains I felt really bad. I'm not sure if I'll stick with BH209 or switch back to Pyrodex. We'll see what happens once this can is gone.

Ohhh my. I have had sleepless nights because I could not find some of the BH thingamajigs in the carpet. One must go to great lengths to not lose them. I wish Black Horn would add lumenok lights to each one. That way if I dropped one I could find it without waking up the whole family and organizing a search party.
I will have to join a Black Horn therapy group if I ever misplaced a bottle of it.
