More Muzzleloader, no golf
With gas prices what they are $1.45/liter ($5.80/gallon), I think I'll stay home and burn more powder instead.:happy0001:

$3.97 a gallon here last time I checked. And I have over an hour to drive in a V6 S-10 pickup. It won't be cheap but if it doesn't rain all day tomorrow I'm going to the range. So with gas, powder and bullets it should cost me about $40.00. OUCH!

Nothing is cheap anymore. Went bear hunting this spring 5 times. Seen no bear and gas total for the season cost me 450.00. So it all sucks. I don't want to think about the main hunting is going to cost in gas.
|
So with gas, powder and bullets it should cost me about $40.00. OUCH! On the other hand, you could go see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, buy a drink, popcorn, and box of candy, and spend your $40 that way. |

I wonder what the police would say if I just slung my muzzleloader over my shoulder and drove my motorcycle to the range? The gas mileage would be a lot better than my truck, lol. |
Guess I'm one of the fortunate, that can just step out my back door and fire away!
|
I shoot a few miles from home. On the other hand, I have to drive 30 miles to get to a gas station and school.
|
i'm pretty lucky. The Ft. Sill private weapons range is about 15 miles away. 13 miles in the other direction is a friends 100 yard range. One of our places has a range to 250 yards but the place is 76 miles from home: We get there about once a month.

Hey, you're lucky - $4.35 a gallon here is the cheapest I've seen in awhile..... |
The deer hunting is good here I have a hunting property 9 minutes drive from home and there is decent public hunting about 15 miles from home the club range is 5 minutes away but for boar or bear I have to go much farther. If the wife and I could both enjoy good health for a while I could do a lot.
|
Well my range is only a mile from home, so I dont have to go far. Gas on the other hand is $3.69 a gallon here, cheaper than some others on here, but still darn expensive. I really dread what its gonna cost to drive to Ohio and hunt this fall. I learned a lesson several years ago when going to Ohio I fill up in Sikeston MO, that way I can drive through ILL and not have to buy gas until I get to IND, gas way to high in ILL.

I guess I never realized how lucky I am having my own range and then being able to hunt my property and the National Forest that I butt up too. Gas is crazy in Wisconsin but it does seem to be finally coming down in price. As for driving a lot.. my truck was new in 06 and I finally turned 18,000 miles on it. I just don't go no where unless absolutely necessary.
Do these ranges charge fees? I know the private ranges around me are rather expensive. |
The range I go to is a public range and the fee is $5.00 for a 1 day permit or $20.00 for a 1 year permit that runs from July 31 thru July 31 of the next year. So if you were to get a 1 year permit right now, it would expire on July 31 of this year. The DNR was there yesterday checking permit's. You don't want to get caught there without a permit. I forget how much the fine is but I'm pretty sure it is over $200.00.

I'll be honest, I don't shoot my MLs like I used to. :busted:
I have to drive about 45 mins to the closest public range-which I won't visit anymore due to the amount of crazies that frequent the facility. So I drive to my buddie's land which is about an hour. It cost more, but I do not have the fear that some 18 year old punk w/an AK is going to accidently shoot me. 95% of my shooting now-a-days is w/a 10/22. I can shoot in my back yard and shoot about 200 times for $6. My buddies and I just have friendly competitions and shoot for small groups. MLs are still my 'first love' and will always be my pick for hunting but money is tight and so you have to adjust. |
