I have shot everything that has come out except pinnacle and goex. Can't get it here. But I have clean shot, clear shot, 777, pyrodex, shockys gold ,white hots ,blackhorn And still have some of all them except clearshot.. I prefer Triple 777 with pyrodex coming in second. I like Blackhorn but I have to many guns it won't work in. Triple 777 works in everything I own.And is accurate ,powerful enough for me and cleans up easy. I never had a problem with it not going boom but once.I had some really old pellets that absorbed a lot of moisture from a clothes dryer that wasnt vented. I dehydrated them in a food dehydrater and they were like new>

The one powder that gave me misfires was Triple Seven pellets. They shot good for a while and then after that they would just POP and that was it. Then the last few in the box fired fine again. But because of that experience, I will not purchase Triple Seven pellets again.

My two main pwds is pyro P and T7 double F, I use the P out of my White rifle and the rest of them get T7. I use to use real black pwd, but cant find it anymore in my area.

I started a favorite powder check off poll on thehighroad.org and I invite anyone who cares to participate to do so to help broaden the poll results:
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=584783 I've shot and have some of almost every powder mentioned but BlackMag, White Hots, Blackhorn 209 and Pinnacle. I have preferred powders for different guns because quite frankly every powder has something to offer in the way of advantages and disadvantages. For revolvers I like using APP. For most sidelocks and shotguns I like using Pyrodex. For hunting with #11 percussion cap inlines I've switched to using APP from using Pyrodex P. I like using 777 in my .36 rifles. I have unfired guns that I'm not sure what I'll use with them yet. I prefer not to shoot with black powder. I have some but just don't have any need to use it yet. Maybe if I buy a flintlock or have a change of heart about which gun to use it in. But until then I would just as soon use old powders that I still have some of like Clean Shot and Clear Shot. The same goes for 777. When I find a use for it in another gun then I will feed it to that gun. But I generally shy away from it. I'll probably end up shooting more of it in a revolver someday. |
Is this limited to just subs, i guess it is since its in the "black powder" section.
BH209 when its on sale for my inlines with a Lehigh conversion. Swiss for testing in my GMB54 with conicals. Im trying T7 again just to see if ive helped the crud ring issue by following Sabotloaders advice. Im avoiding Pyro just because it is at least as corrosive as real black and it creates some cyanide laced byproducts when fired. Otherwise its 5744, N110, N120 and Re7 (IN APPROVED GUNS). Almost no cleaning needed and ES is excellent. :D Plus its way cheaper to shoot than BH209. :D |
All my guns are #11 ignition so its real black powder for me. Never liked pyrodex but T7 3F will work though its less consistent than my Swiss 3F.

i use Goex Pinnacle powder. Pinnacle got good writeups from Randy Wakeman and Toby Bridges.

I'm coming into this topic late but I've been out of town for a while.
I've shot just about everything out there at one time. But I've settled on GOEX for sidelocks and BH 209 for inlines. GOEX because of ignition BH 209 because of consistency and flexibility in a post hunt cleaning. I don't care about velocity. A LONG shot for me is 100 yards. Most are in the 20-40 yard range. I don't care about cost because I'm not fortunate enough to have a lot of time to get to the range. I'm a hunter not a shooter. |
