They did not have any of the Great Plains Rifles in .54 caliber and in flintlock. So I got the .50 Great Plains Hunter figuring I had a lot of different conical bullets and sabots to try. And then I will purchase a .54 caliber Great Plains Rifle barrel from Midway USA. Then I have the best of both worlds.

What weight Thor do you think would work the best, and what diameter?

I'm not sure what Midway gets for a barrel, but Midsouth has the best prices on Lyman.

Cayugad, 250gr with 90gr 3F Goex did awesome in my dads cabelas hawken and it has the 1:48 twist.
Make sure you dont have a loose spot in the bore towards the breech though! |
I like that!

Your right.. MidSouth instead of Midway. Boy did they take a jump in price.

And then I will purchase a .54 caliber Great Plains Rifle barrel from Midway USA. Then I have the best of both worlds. Actually, I had the same thoughts when I bought my .54 GPR, figuring I would get a .50 Hunter barrel later. Never got around to it though and lost my desire for another .50. Now the only thing that would really tempt me would be a .45 fast twist flint barrel. |
I forgot to mention in my first post.
Brake cleaner works good on getting the factory oil out of the barrel. |
My Lyman Deerstalker Flintlock stock is really dark too. And your right that crap in the barrel is a pain to get out. I did like you and now I just need to shoot it once to get it cleaned out for good. My barrel and stock fit really really snug. Almost to the point that I wanted to inlet it alittle bit, but Lyman says dont do it. So we will see. Congrats on the new toy! Thanks to Josmund I bought a pretty much new .54 Lyman Plains Pistol that I plan to shoot this weekend. I'll post pics when I do.

I think dark stocks always look better than the light tone stocks.
