Any shotgunners out there?
#1
I just got some ITX shot in and want to work up a turkey load out of my 10 ga Pedroselli.
I do shoot steel out of it as the barrels are chromed.
Oh and thanks guys. I read all here - have a new inline I have never shot and 2 hawkens built for my dad by John Reeves back in the 70s I have never shot. So I am reading getting answers to my questions.
In the process of setting up a range at my north home as the weather is gettig nicer.

Here's a shotgunner. Plan on working up a turkey load for this year.
Navy Arms / Pietta 12 guage SxS. Chrome barrels.
I'm just gettting started. I have the shot " 5 " and the cards. I plan on using the Knight wads. I wish I knew how much powder I could put in this gun as I can't find an owners manual. Right now I plan on going with 80 - 90 grains of RS with an equal amount of shot
This amount of shot does not fill the wad. Does anyone recommend triming the wad down to size. Any other tips for a rookie?

Jos - you could take the gun to a smith and ask them. I did that with my great grand daddies sxs that bored at a 16 ga.
He suggested a load and told me not to exceed 110 grains.
I don't trim my shot cups. but I look for shot cups that I can fill to the top with my chosen load.
I am like you at 80-90 grains as I found this patterns best. But I need time at the patterning board and will report back.
I have #4 copper plated lead to pattern as well as this new ITX shot (supposed to be like Heavy shot)
I got some new shot cups in too from BPI as I am trying to improve my pattern.

I'm just getting started in BP shot gunning, same as you, and have read that you can fill your plastic wads by splitting 12 gauge felt wads and putting them under the shot. I haven't tried it because I don't use plastic wads. I am not a turkey hunter yet. I just bought a Pedersoli 12 ga. with choke tubes and have not had much of a chance to shoot it yet - but am champing at the bit for warmer weather.
