Hornady screwed up when they dropped the .50 caliber 410 grain flat point Great Plains bullet and kept the 385 grain hollow point. The heavier flat point was a great bullet. I put a lot of deer down with them and they never failed me. I won't use the 385 hollow point on deer.

To a degree your right, but then again your not out there with 120 gr bh either lol.70-80 gr pyrodex and a 460 gr bullet is about the same as 110 gr bh 209 and a 300 gr bullet!to be honest with you, i am bored with the saboted bullets out of my Triumph. just about every saboted bullet i have shot out if it drives tacks, except the 300 gr deep curls :confused0024:. shooting the little Knight wolverine with conicals seemed to make it fun and challenging again.i am seriously considering going that direction to be perfectly honest.don't be suprised if you see my Triumph up for sale and me looking for a .45 White or a .45 Knight. maybe the wolverine sparked the old days with the renegade .54 and conicals.when you see people on the no excuse sight regularly taking game out to 225 yds with the big lead and peep sights. i say to myself, now that's a challenge! I won't do that again. I'll just shoot it with a PRB/BP and get closer. |

Whats crazy is the fact that its just a tiny hollow point and yet it still is enough to make a big chunk of lead like that explode.

builder,
They also drop like a rock at distance, and kick like mules. Fast lighter bullets suit me better. I use a 6" 'Point Blank Range' concept and allow the bullet to be up a max of 3" and down a max of 3" Here is a ballistic table for the bullet shooting 90 grains of T7-3f ![]() |
No thanks. I'm not going over 300gr for a bullet.
If I can't kill an elk with that. I'll do more fly fishing. :arms: <----< fish |
ahhhhhh fly fishing. Thats something i do want to get into. But dang are them rods and reels expensive.

Wait a minute. Those ballistics aren't impressive for such a heavy bullet.
Look at the Thors at 200 yds for FPE. These are approximations based on "0" 100 yards yards muzzle 50 100 150 200 250 300 250 gr BT vel 2200 2019 1849 1690 1545 1413 1294 drop -1.5 0.3 0 -2.79 -8.52 -17.72 -31.25 energy 2687 2263 1898 1586 1325 1109 930 yards muzzle 50 100 150 200 250 300 300 gr BT vel 2030 1884 1747 1619 1501 1391 1292 drop -1.5 0.45 0 -3.25 -9.66 -19.86 -34.39 energy 2746 2365 2034 1747 1501 1289 1112 |

Muley the 300 gr is a excellent choice for obvious reasons.do you think the deer or elk that get's hit with a 300 gr saboted bullet or a .460 conical cares about how long it took the bullet to get there? dead is dead my friend, plain and simple! i just want to have fun and make it a challenge. and i can't complain about the overall reduced cost in shooting either to be totally honest!
