Who else likes a traditonal Hawkin?

I like to shoot 100 grains of ffg black powder with a 530 grain round ball and iron sights on my 54. cal. I also have an inline. However I have preferd to use the old hawkin. Guess i could try a flintlock some day or some kind of flash pan for even more of a chlenge.

Poor Man

I have lost interest in the Hawken... but the Renegade has captured eveything that was lost... I really do like them...

Bought an inline two seasons ago...still shooting the Hawken. Haven't even put a bullet through the new one.

I watched Jeremiah Johnson again this afternoon. Every time I watch that movie I want to run out and buy another Hawken!! Tom.

I would really like to get an actual Hawken and not a T/C, CVA or other brand's copy. The Browning was a real close replica. But the actual 'Hawkens' are a bit pricey for my blood. Maybe some day.

Poor Man, don't even think about getting a flintlock. The satisfaction of shooting a good group with one, or taking a deer with a rocklock has been know to cause an irreversible condition known as "flintergrinning". :)

Bronko, it seems to me that the Lyman Great Plains is a pretty darn good representation of the generic Mountain Rifle (certainly closer than TC's Hawken). Body styles vary, but my GP feels better at my shoulder than either the TC Hawken or Renegade.

I like the T/C Hawkins rifle. It shoulders well, and functions real good. I also like the Renegade and Trade Rifle.

My first BP rifle was an Omega. Bought it to have the coveted " Any Deer " tag.

Where I hunt we have a mix of Muleys & Whitetails. With a center fire you have a tag for one or the other. Of course, I'd have the wrong tag when a nice buck of the other species would walk by.

I must admit I struggled prior to finding this board but with all the help here I had the Omega shooting MOA. I was done messing with the Omega.

Then, at a gun show, I found a never fired Disc Elite 45. I bought it and in one range session it was zeroed right in. Boring!

Now I have the bug. This forum fuels the bug daily. I buy a TC Hawken on the cheap and absolutely love all the different combos. Maxiballs, PRBs.. I'm going try sabots today. Plus the open sights keep you guessing. Was a bad load or was I off?

The bottom line... I love tinkering with the Hawken as a scoped inline is just too easy. That's accuracy is your objective. There are other things to play with.

Anyone have a good 54 Renegade for sale? it
It's next on my list.
