Dad took his Apex out on the range yesterday. Shooting his normal load of 100gr Blackhorn209, CCI 209M primers, 295gr Hollow Point Powerbelt @ 100 yards. It was 70* yesterday and so we had to put the guns in the shade for a few minutes in order for the barrels to cool down properly. The 270gr Platinum Powerbelts shoot darn close to this group so we're going to work a bit more with the 270s and see if more cool down will match this group.

Im not taking him shooting anymore! That or just loosen up his scope mounts! LOL.

that really is impressive shooting. And I think your cooling the barrels like you do is an excellent idea. I know of one shooter that takes a cooler with ice water and towels, and actually wraps the barrels in an ice cold towel to cool them faster and even lower in temperatures.
With that kind of shooting at 100 yards it would be interesting to see how those same bullets do at say 150 or 200 yards.

3 shots later and an 8" string pattern, he was going, SOB! How the hell do you shoot these muzzle loaders like that? Why cant i do it?
Theres a learning curve, plain and simple. The lead sled doesnt turn a poor shooter into a great shooter, it takes practice and patience.
