CVA didnt offer a 45cal Optima in 2009. They only offered it in the top of the line Accura and Apex until recently they added it to a few cheaper Accuras. They did offer it in the Optima "Elite" and the older nickel Optima (i think).

I had a Accura 45 and the cheapest i ever saw them was $389 even several months after the V2s came out. Good shooter too but didn't handle hotter loads as well as my Elite.

As far as twist, a 1-20 isnt bad at all. Many SML 45s are 1-18 to 1-22 twist and shoot a 195 or 200gr well past 2700fps. Using Bh209 a faster twist might also help it build pressure at a better curve with some bullets. A few of the guys here and on MM love their Knight and White 45cal 1-20s.

Most guys aren't going to shoot sub 180gr 40s anyway so you might as well go heavier and make it a real longer range 45. I shoot a cast 260gr 40cal for fun in my 1-30 at 1950fps but i bet a faster twist would improve the groups.

i had an Evolution .50 and it was a heck of a shooter and the trigger was somewhat adjustable but the stock is going to need a good deal of work. I shot mine on cold days and the next week it warmed up and that stock turned to goo and shot horrible.

I'd have to agree with Builder, the new cva wolf with the quick release breech plug only runs $165 from www.rrarms.com Ive had 3 of the new wolfs, 2 of them i still have and needed no work to be accurate.

Builder i cant find a pic of a STAINLESS Optima 45cal and even CVAs site only lists the STAINLESS models in 50cal. Even Mark Hendrix mentioned they only offered the Accura 45 in stainless and the top of the line model. The Optima Elite and Apex are the only exceptions i can find in a break action.

I know they used to offer a nickel finish and blued finish Optima 45.

The poster mentioned he was going to buy a T/C,but happen to find the used stainless traditions cheap while looking around. the .45 cal optimas i mentioned are not stainless lol.and yes they did offer a nickel finish, sportmans guide sold out of them in .45 cal. he appears to be looking for inexpensive rifles. any T/C he may have looked at in stainless is high dollar..sorry for the confusion..i just can't see buying a used rifle, when there are NIB bargains out there.i also don't have a problem with the 1:20 either but they are known to be finicky about what bullet you stuff in them. the faster twist IMHO opens the door for more bullet choices is all..Ray

I agree about used vs NIB. You can find the newer Optima with the QRB for right at $200 in SS and it handles nice. About 3 weeks ago i got a Knight DISC SS 45cal NIB for just $249 and i could have gotten another Elite for the same price in 45 or 50cal. ;) He still has a blued Elite 45 for $249 and an Original blued 50cal for $199. SportsmansGuide still has Vision 50cal SS for $219 too.

Exactly! i might also add, that as far as a bolt action M/L, the Knights are the way to go hands down lol! in this day and age one has to do there homework when buying about any product.if you don't the deal you think you got,wasn't such a deal after all.. Ray

If your open to a .50 there are deals everywhere online. GM posted some of the different ones, he has come across. you might take a serious look at some .50 cal rifles.. have fun shopping around Ray..

Remington also made the 700ML in .45.
A local gun shop had one on consignment that included a scope for close to $300.
