Super Job Corey!!
|
just need an break in the weather, going to try to get out monday.
duh, just remembered they close the range for cleaning and maintenance on mondays :busted::nonono2::bash: |
I really like those 459s. Looks like a potentially nice 45cal conical after the correct sizing die. Thats the tall middle one? I would like to find a slightly "pointier" maybe lighter one just for cheap target shooting. My Elite 45 really likes a 360gr and just 80grs.
|
planning on using as conical out of my 45cal, those suckers drop out at 412gr in wheel weight. have not done many in soft lead, I can't remember what the weight is,
the 45cal minie is close in design, |
The mold that interests me the most is the Lyman 454122? i think. Its a 458ish 330gr hp. Seems like it would make a good multi purpose mold depending on sizing and hardness for 45s or larger calibers in a sabot. There is a very similar one without a hp 350gr too....I think its a LBT brand.

Corey-
a foolish question, perhaps- Do you polish them, or do they come out of the mold that shiny? I know nothing about casting... |

a foolish question, perhaps- Do you polish them, or do they come out of the mold that shiny? I know nothing about casting... sorted range lead (made from jacked bullets) are mostly shiny with an small amount of frost in the lube grooves. wheel weight lead lite satin finish when starting out once my lead getting to hot, frost looking. does not bother me. that is how it works out for me |
So, it's a matter of how hot the lead gets as well as the level of impurities in it, then.
Those maxis almost look to pretty to shoot. |
I have an few lubed up and thinking about doing an short afternoon shoot. may not and do a little lead hunting.
wheel weights have tin and antimony in it, take less heat to melt and heat up to casting temp, I don't know what the chemical reaction is that makes it be an duller color. of course, if my statement is wrong, or knows the answer, someone would come along to and correct me |
