Forum needs a change

What does it say about this forum when one post has almost 3000 views and 150 replys to a subject that in the first place should have been handled in private. I for one go to such a forum as a form of escape. After driving 66 miles one way into DC for work its nice at times to go on and read about a subject we all love. I fully understand that some are retired and have more time than others, but a few on here I question how do they earn a living? Always on here.....Go get a job. With everything that goes on in today's world with technology I'm sure if any type of research would have been done this whole thing could have been handled months ago. It doesn't bother me when certain people push a certain brand that they have interest in. We all have our own brains and use them to see past the bull sh**. If you don't like a person or subject don't read or follow them. Sending out personal attacks of someone you never met is not needed. Lets go back to posts of the BORECLEANIGWEASEL we sure do need him now.

AMEN!!!!!!,
I've also been wondering where that old weasel has gotten off to, maybe we could ask Semi where he has gone.

flounder33 01-27-2011 03:12 AM

The Weasel Rules. It is too cold for him now though. He might come out sometime in March.

Rogo 01-27-2011 03:40 AM

I also agree. Enough is enough. Does not this forum have any moderators to put a stop to this kind of crap. I am thinking about dropping this forum as one of my places to visit and read. It is getting worse all the time. Same group of experts starting up crap and keeping it going instead of acting like adults.

Urban_Redneck 01-27-2011 03:58 AM

Huntingnet.com was a much different place back in 2003 when I joined.

I suppose it's more about click-counts now, if wild accusations bring in the clicks, the mods just stand aside.

I agree. Not sure if this forum has moderators or not, but if so they really need to step up.

SteveBNy 01-27-2011 04:23 AM

Self moderation is about the easiest thing one can do on a forum.
Don't like the thread, just don't go there. Really not that difficult.
"Hot" threads can serve a real purpose, but veiwing and participation are completely optional to all who visit.

mnprohunter 01-27-2011 04:26 AM

I came on this morning to post just what you said. I thought about it last night, how many posts/views that topic had....way more than any other. sad. Hopefully everyone will read what you just said and move on. A forum such as this is for sharing ideas, learning, sharing stories, etc, not attacks and you said/he said. Thanks for posting this it was needed!

+ !
I agree, we don't need this kind of thing or all this silly inane stuff about somebody's home life either. Where are the moderators that use to control this kind of stuff.
Perhaps we should consider if there is a way we can control it.
If when we see this kind of thing perhaps we should stay off for a week or so instead of commenting this would control the clicks and perhaps bring a reaction from the powers controlling.

I for one wont drop this forum, I came on here in 08 and have learned lots about muzzleloading. I bought my first and have hunted with a ml since I was 18yrs old (thats 28yrs). I have shot lots of deer with one before I came on to this forum, but I have to say that I was in awe at how much a higher level folks take muzzleloading on here than I ever thought about doing. I would find a load that shot to my satisfaction and thats what I would hunt with.
I try not to say anything on here that would discredit or offend anyone on here. Sometimes I give my experiences that I have had hunting on here and that might differ from someone else, but hey havent we all had things that happened from time to time that is different from our own previous experiences. Lets get back to what this forum is about Muzzleloading.

+1 on this when someone has been acting out and posting allegations of others or those beating up on that person , I initionally do read the threads. And then if I dont like what is said I generally will just ignore whatever this person may post in the future. Why let it bring down this great site, let it go. When certain posters see that their threads arent being viewed they might see the light. Ive learned so much here in the short time Ive been on I appreciate all who contribute to help out us newbies.

X2, this says it all.i have never argued with another member on this forum, and i firmly believe everything i said in that thread to be totally true. if that offends people i am truly sorry..but some things just need to be said.. Ray

While the thread certainly was not one of the finer moments, I believe that there can be a lot of lessons learned from the contents. Disagreements are going to happen, they have been happening since the beginning of time. But it says a lot when the disagreement can be discussed, even though it be heated at times, and mutual agreement is reached.... certainly better than the alternatives.

What happened in the thread boils down to 'conflict resolution'. Conflict resoulution is not always pretty and there is lot more of it needed. Hopefully it can all be kept behind the scenes but sometimes it does and needs to come to the surface to get resolved. Un-resolved confict can really become a problem and lead to some really violent reactions...

It is a proven fact that people can grow from confict if it reaches a resolution

Does this statement address the point???

With most conflicts, it’s important to find a resolution. This seems like a statement of the obvious, but many people suppress their anger or just ‘go along to get along.' They think that by addressing a conflict, they are creating one, and simply keep quiet when upset. Unfortunately, this isn’t a healthy long-term strategy. For one thing, unresolved conflict can lead to resentment and additional unresolved conflict in the relationship. Even more important, ongoing conflict can actually have a negative impact on your health and longevity.

Well said as usual.. Ray

I believe in self moderation in all things. That is one reason I never responded to that topic. I think I tuned into it once to see what the disagreement was about, and once to see if they had resolved it, but other then that.. I had too many other topics to pay attention to. Life is too short to argue for me. Although I will say, this is a great forum and the members here are wonderful people whom I respect and admire. I will leave it at that.

borecleaningweasel 01-27-2011 07:57 AM

last time I heard the "we need change" chant we ended up with Obama as president.:s14: What would have been better would be to grab someone by the ear and march them out to the woodshed. :action-smiley-099:That would have solved the problem before the end of page one on the post.

falcon 01-27-2011 07:59 AM

Welcome back, Weasel.

Semisane 01-27-2011 08:29 AM

The Weasel is back! All is right with the world.

Very well said there sup. There is one thing I believe you are incorrect on...

:hit: Go Steelers??? I believe you're mistaken and meant to say...

GO GREEN BAY PACKERS!!!

Oh my goodness... another disagreement. :D Actually I wish the best of luck to both teams. But I am a little biased for the Green bay Packers. :woot::woot::woot::woot: :party0005:

MountainDevil54 01-27-2011 10:14 AM

both are good teams. I think green bay however holds a slight advantage with their half back. I think Rodgers will be a bit jumpy with the pressure from the steelers though. Its a coin flip IMO

Semisane 01-27-2011 10:34 AM

The Saints lost their first playoff game. Football is dead to me.

flounder33 01-27-2011 10:36 AM

You had your day under the sun last year. Now they are the aints again.

i agree, only thing worse than a forum with no moderation is one with too much. Click on links you like, skip ones you dont. To me it says alot to have 3000 views and only 150 replies....it means you got a bunch of people who are curious but arent getting involved b/c its not their business/ they dont care/ they dont want the drama....pick one. And the ones who did reply had something to say which is there right too......its all about freedom baby

I just wanted to get that great looking Packer thought up again and to the top....

HNI_Christine 01-27-2011 04:51 PM

I've been trying to stay away from coming in here and playing the big, bad moderator.

You won't like it if I do. ;)

In the meantime, if you see something that really needs moderation. Report it. Please.

I've been trying to sift through the emails and pm's.... trying to figure out what is going on in these gun forums and honestly.. it's pretty confusing. There seems to be a lot of "this guy did/said this on another forum and..".

I can't really do anything about what goes on over on other forums. I understand wanting to vent or defend one's self but this is not the place to do it.

Please keep what goes on in other forums; on the other forums.

As far as people talking/lying about what they may or may not know. I can't really do anything about that either. If I got rid of everyone that blew smoke out their butt from time to time... this site would be really dead.

Please try to keep it civil in here. I will enforce the rules about personal attacks.

Thanks.

Semisane 01-27-2011 04:58 PM

Hey there Christine. I for one very much appreciate the "hands off" approach by moderators. We're big boys and can play in the mud without permanent harm. :s1:

This is my favorite muzzleloading forum by a wide margin.

A HUGE BIG :arms: - second to this statement....

JW 01-27-2011 05:40 PM

Well if it does get out of hand - just report it. Is the reason we are here.

Debate is good and is needed in many topics - personal attacks are not and are against the HNI rules.

I for one was glad to see some fires that where Self Moderated. Good job fellas.......
