Was thinking about going out today

And that's about as far as I got. Was going to go shooting today or maybe take the .32 out for squirrels but when the grandkids woke me at 7:00 and we came downstairs the thermometer said 7*. I decided today will be better spent taking inventory and maybe later taking a ride to Cabela's.

We had -29º F below yesterday, so this morning's -5º F was a heat wave. I got up early, went outside and shoveled snow, and then got things ready around the house. For some reason my toes got cold this morning. They never get cold usually. If it gets warmer, I might even go shoot today.

Just checked.... the sun is out and it is 32* so I think I am headed to the rock pit.
I am taking the 209 set up out of the MK and putting the #11 back in as I type this.
Got a couple of goals this morning if I get out of here.... want to do some recreation shooting (breaking birds @ various ranges) + I want to shoot the Lehigh Sabotless (270 gr.) and the Lehigh .458/275 and see how much difference in flight plath and velocity that there might be....
+ call me crazy but because of the design of the Knight percussion cap breech plug I even think I am going to try to shoot some BH with a #11 mag cap... which reminds me gotta check to see if I have any RWS-1075+ caps in the kit....

It got down to 14 last night according to my weather station and we have several inches of snow on the ground again. This is unbelievable for AR but it sure is pretty.
Have been seeing bobcat and coyote regularly on the game camera tried calling but no shot so far. I think they only come down the mountain at night.

29 below, brrrrrrrrr, dont think I would enjoy that kind of temp. I went out this afternoon in the snow looking over a new hunting spot in the river bottoms. It was a beautiful day temp 35 degrees and sunshine. Saw a dozen deer, but no horns, lots of tracks that kind of given me a little idea how they move there. Its got two fields one 7 acres and the other 9 acres that I can plant in food plots. Looking forward this spring to plant soybeans in one and the other plant a fall plot.

My neighbor (3 miles away) up the road that lives on the river had -34º F below. That river bottom of his is always five degrees usually, colder them me. I always tease him because I live three miles south of him. I tell him that's why I moved south, because of the warmer climates. Northern Minnesota I heard (where my Dad grew up.. and he can remember -60º F as a kid on the farm) had -44º F and we are not talking wind chill now.
I would be afraid if Semisane came for a visit. He might step outside and turn into a Louisiana Scotch Popsicle. I remember my sister (who lived in Dallas and Georgia most her adult life) came home for a visit. It was -20º F but was early February. So I was used to the cold. I was outside in a Levi jean jacket splitting firewood, and her husband came out in my Arctic hooded fur faced parka (use that for when I blow snow). He was so cold he went back in the house. He said he just couldn't take it. My sister then came out, and she lasted about three minutes. You get used to the cold. And really as any of these snow rats will tell you... stay busy and you stay warm.
It was so cold one year, Smoky the Bear was running through the woods up here begging someone to start a forest fire... (old logger joke)

Do y'all hunt much in that extreme cold? If so what do you wear to stay warm? Do most folks hunt from treestands or blinds where a portable heater can be used? My favorite hunting temps is around 25 of the morning and 40's during the day. On one Ohio trip i went on was brutally cold for me it was in the single digits or 0 most of the 5 days that I hunted. One morning it was like 5 degrees and the wind was 20 +, I set for 4hrs in a tree and honestly didnt think I was going to make it down, my joints seem to be froze up and didnt want to move.
