Got the GPR all stained!

Used antique wood stain from track of the wolf, Honey maple and got the stock all stripped down and fine sanded today. Got a total of 5 coats of honey maple on her and i think that will be plenty.

I may actually try 3 coats of antique finish " hand rubbed stuff" on it and see how that looks. If it doesnt work out well, i can always go over it with Truoil for a solid finish and just buff the shine down.

Now to order some browning and bluing solution for the rest of the metal. Not sure what i will go with so i will just work the metal smooth and decide what to do when the supplies arrive.

Cant wait to get her all put back together!

Oh but i like to tease :D

I'll take some here in a bit. Got the rifle over by the warm stove so the tru oil sets up faster.

MountainDevil54 01-15-2011 03:06 PM

oh guys i freakin got the finish perfect!

I used some original oil finish that i bought years ago from TOW and i used some 0000 steel wool after i had applied 3 coats of tru oil, i wet the steel wool with the oil and lightly buffed the finish. Holy moly! I think this will be my favorite way to finish a stock once i finish this up!

Got to apply about 4 or 5 more coats of spray on truoil before i call it.

Ok here are some crappy pics. Camera doesnt take pics worth a snot inside the house. I'll take some pics tomorrow outside.

I reshaped the cheek piece as i hated the stock cheek piece on it, they make it way to bulky and so i took care of that. Would have liked to remove more but i didnt have the tools to carve the wood.

As usual, Mr fatty guarding the rifle LOL.

Im about to rub in another thin coat of original oil finish and work that into the wood. After that i will let it dry over night, take it apart and shoot it with another coat of truoil.

I see your dog is guarding it for you. You're doing a real nice job on that rifle.
