Question What Type Of Projectile Do You Use & What Twist Rate

What type of projectile do you use in your muzzleloader when hunting, patched round ball, conicle, or saboted bullet? What is the twist rate of the barrel you use it with?

My rifle is an early 70s vintage T/C Hawken...I'm not sure of the twist, but I believe it is a 1 in 48 , which would be a compromise twist to handle both round balls and conicals reasonably well.. Whatever it is, it works because the rifle is accurate with both round balls and several different conicals...

It's a .50 cal and I am currently shooting the Noexcuses 460 grain conical ahead of 80 grains of triple F 777....This bullet loads easily and is very accurate in my rifle.. For years I used a PRB with 90 grains of 2F Pyrodex..That worked well also.. Then a few years ago I wanted to go to a heavy conical for an elk hunt..I tried the Noexcuses and they shot so well I currently use them for an all around load..

TC Endeavor1: Hornaday .430 FTX 265 gr, MMP mag Sabot

TC Endeavor2: Beartooth cast .430 325gr SSML, MMP mag sabot

CVA Accura: Hornaday .451 XTP Mag 240gr, MMP std Sabot

All of the above are 1 in 28 twist rates

If all you want to shoot is roundball, look for a 1-70, 1-66, 1-60 such twist. If you want to shoot roundball and conicals and sabots then a 1-48 or 1-38 might be your best bet. If conical bullets are your thing look for a 1-24, 1-28, or 1-32. If sabots then 1-28 or faster would be the way to go.

I have all of them twists. Which one you want to know about?
