im fairly new to muzzeloading.. i just got a t/c omega an want to take proper care of the gun to get maximum accuracy an life out of the gun. i was thinking about buying a cleaning kit, what would you say woukd be the things i need and must do to keep it at the range and the offseason? thanks

bore mop - Love using the bore mop to apply oil to the barrel.

If you dont want to apply oil. Use Ultra Bore Coat. No rust or corrosion can get through it.

windex, good old soap and water, butch's bore shine and rusty duck. oil I use rim oil or hoppes #9

Depending on what Powder you use will make a difference. At the range some Windex Patches for inbetween shots. For cleaning good old soap and water and alcohol or Windex Patches, and a Good Oil like Montana X-Treme for the Bore. Some Patches, a Nylon Bore Brush and you'll be in shape.
After Cleaning run a Patch of Montana X-Treme Oil down the Bore, and then a Dry Patch befor reloading. For Storage a good saturated Patch of Montana X-Treme Bore Conditioner in the Barrel and a dry Patch in the Muzzle to keep out the Dust. Clean the Action good and Oil it and you'll never have to worry.
Keep it Clean and Oiled and it will last you a long time.

do some searches and you will find recipes for homemade cleaning solutions that are great, like some of the ones above.....i made up a gallon for my prohunter using equal parts murphys soap, water, peroxide, and iso alcohol. I clean with that and finish off with some kind of bore butter or seasoning patch. Like someone else mentioned, what you shoot will also impact how you clean.

a muzzle guard/protector is a must have item to me as it keeps your ramrod/range rod from distorting the crown on your barrel.....karl

With out knowing the powder and type bullet [sabot or conical an accurate answer would take a page and most of it would not be used anyway.
Do use a good range rod with a bore protecting sleeve. Rust and ramrod wear are two of the most common problems that can ruin a barrel.

What do you recommend for this product? I have a Cabela's aluminum range rod which does touch the barrel / crown as I load and clean.

I have a 50 & 45. Will one work for both or do I need one for each caliber?
