Default Good Deal,Maybe Not.

I just bought a CVA Bobcat for $20.00.The guy said it was a Renegade and I didn't look at it untill I got home. The real problem is the barrel is rusted to hell inside.I knew this when I bought it.I thought I would give her a try anyway. He wanted $30.00.If it won't shoot can someone help me with a link to where I might get a new barrel for it?

as long as the barrel isnt pitted it should shoot fine. run some wire brushes down through it and use the bore cleaner on it. afterwards, run some WD40 down and use the wire brush again until you dont get anymore rust back on your patches.

I just worked on it for about an hour and rust is still visable. It's really bad.I don't know how anyone could treat a gun like that, even a cheap one.I didn't realize they were so inexpensive.I was using remington bore cleaner on it.I guess I'll have to try to shoot it out and see if I can get it to group in the process.

use some 0 steel wool soaked in oil and scrub that sucker.

A new barrel runs around $80 i think and it just would put it over what its worth.

You can easily get your money back + profit if you part it out on ebay

JB bore paste and oil 50/50 on a scotch brite pad and a jag, i save all my old scotch brite pads and use them to scrub bores.000 steel wool would probably work also.

CVA might have a side lock manual on file at their site. The max load for the rifle is 100 grains. Try 70 grains and a roundball. I think you will be surprised at how accurate they are.

you could also go to NAPA and get some EVAPORUST,if all else fails.$20 for a gun in any condition is very good.

I would get as much of the rust out as you can, and shoot it before deciding on anything. It might shoot very well. I bought one like that many years ago (a T/C white mountain) and soaked the entire barrell in solvent for a week or so - then cleaned the heck out of it best I could. Went and shot it and it actually shot very well, to my suprise. I reblued the barrel and gave it to my dad for Christmas. Turned out to be a very nice gun that I had about $75 in total. The barrell still looks like crap inside really by most folks standards, but it shoots well. Good luck.
