Default Damaged QRBP

We received a QRBP in the mail, that arrived damaged around the rim. It was shipped in hopes it could be modified to be reliable whilst shooting BH209. A couple of days went by with us mulling whether to proceed with the modification. It was decided to go ahead with the installation of a vent liner, and then i would test it in my rifle.

Today i drilled the flash channel with a #21 drill, drilled the face of the plug to create a powder pocket, and installed a Lehigh vent liner. Then i headed for the hills.

Nothing was used on the plug to allow easy removal, or stop leakage. My rifle was loaded, so i had to shoot it once with my own plug in place. One can see the leakage at the damage on the shipped plug. This, i believe, will lead to flame cutting of the barrel cone and threads. The damaged plug performed just fine, except for leaking at the damage. It was reliable, accurate, and removed readily using fingers only. My plug has about 9 shots through it.

My rifle was fired 6 times; once with my plug, and 5 times with the damaged plug. Range to the target was near 102 yard. The double hole is one shot using my plug, and one shot using the damaged plug. The flier is the first shot from the damaged plug, and it could be wild because of the presence of cutting oil. That spent primer had soot on it, whereas all the others were clean.

It was 15* when i left home, and 17* when i began shooting, and 18* when i finished shooting, so i avoided the cold by shooting from................

When ever anyone mails a QRBP, one should take care to insure the barrel end of the plug is for sure protected. In good condition the QRBP allows zero blowby around the barrel-plug connection, and removes so easily with fingers, it almost feels like it is pushing. Installing the vent liner has thus far resulted in 100% reliability using BH209, even with the damaged plug.

that dent should pop out with a good 100gr load. I accidently dropped mine on a rock while taking some pictures. Loaded up my same load of 100gr bh209, 300gr thor. Popped it right back into place perfect. That ring actually expands into the little chamber in the barrel to seal off blow by.

I guess you missed the part where the damaged plug was being used, whilst 5 shots were taken. Also, if you look at the first picture, you can see that the top of the rim isn't just pushed in, it has been pushed down or chipped. Thinking that taking another shot will heal this plug is ludicrous.

had to save it to my computer and refresh the colors. I can now see where its pushed down a bit. Maybe some pliers to help it back up and then a few shots to form it.
