In the October, 2007 issue of American Rifleman magazine;
Bryce M. Towsley tested BP and the various BP substitutes. Yep, his tables have errors but most of the data is correct. Towsley did not give any data for the two stick load of JSG sticks because it was so erratic. He had to crush the sticks to prevent a squib load.

Using three stick JSG load, the standard deviation for velocity was 207 fps: This is awful. As a comparison: The SD for velocity using a 150 grain charge of Pyrodex RS was 22 fps. The SD for velocity using 150 grains of 2F Pinnacle was 24 fps.

JSG made an excellent powder for Goex. It was called Pinnacle. Pinnacle is more powerful than JSG. That powder is no longer available. i've got cases of the stuff stored in 20mm Army ammo cans along with dessicant.

My son uses the JSG sticks and when he was done hunting a couple weekends ago, he fired his gun to unload it and it looked like a mini fireworks show of smoking pieces of pellets. They resembled little smoking rockets flying at different angles. They flew maybe 20 yds. before fizzing out. It sounded like a regular shot and looked kind of cool, but I'm sure it would affect the bullet performance considerably. Needless to say the rest of the sticks are going right in the trash. JUNK!

Ive seen the same thing. It looked like a Roman Candle.

If i remember correctly APP/JSG did at one time recommend crushing the sticks but i think they have changed their recommendation. IMO they are junk either way.

A square peg in a round hole just doesn't make sense IMO and the sticks are not cheap either.

i'm positive that APP once recommended that the sticks be crushed.

Yes, they wanted the sticks crushed. I shoot loose JSG 3f in my revolvers. And I have APP 2f around the house. It is fun to shoot but I would never hunt with it. Just my personal opinion.

And I agree with Falcon. I used to get Pinnacle for Power Inc. What a great powder that was. I shot that in my Knight Wolverine and fired 12 rounds, never swabbed and could have shot more but ran out of bullets. Also it cleaned real easy.
