Tough season
#1
Well this past saturday opened our regular gun season. Carried my White since I was gonna be hunting the woods and not in the fields. Hunted all day sat and sun and monday morning and saw a total of 8 does and youngins. Not one of the does had a buck with them. I dont know what I'm gonna have to do to see a buck this year, this is turning out to be the worst deer season that I have had in a long time. I know how it can change in about 30 seconds so I keep going. Had to come home and work monday night, but tuesday morning when I get off gonna head back to the cabin and stay the rest of the week. I'm gonna hunt some river bottom fields so I think i will pack my 7 mag with a bi-pod for that. I sure hope it gets better.

I'm making a generality here, but I'm guessing the wtail and muley guys have a different idea of a tough season

You're doing better than me Greg. I hunted Saturday morning and evening, and Sunday morning with the intention of putting a fat doe in the freezer and didn't see a deer. Very unusual for our area. Got to be the weather, or maybe I need a shower.

Its unusual here to, normally I see lots of small bucks, not this year. I'm not finding many rubs or scrapes around either. I did hog a batch of hogs coming up the creek sunday evening, but just my luck they stayed in the creek bottom while I was sitting in a tree on the shelf above. I would take a nice fat porker no problem lol.

Have you tried hunting the edge or inside the thickest woods around you? I always find that unless the rut is on, the does will walk just outside the cover and the bucks will hang just inside it. You're right though, 30 seconds is all it takes!
