Default Knight DISC Elite @ the Rock Pit

I really like this idea of being partially retired again, I was able to make the trip to the Rock Pit again today. I took Tom DISC Elite 50 and headed out I wanted to verify where his gun was shooting and how it might shoot these new bullets that I have.

Got to the rock pit about 11 in the morning got everything set up and started to work - work you got that WORK!

Really have not got anything to show for the first part of the shooting cause I set up breakable targets at various ranges and started shooting. Since I was shooting Tom's rifle I also broke down and was shooting Black Gold - BH-209... Shooting the birds was really uneventful - I shot they broke....

Second part of the range trip was to do some more testing with the .475/350 grain bullets that I was trying. I set up a paper target at 75 yards as I also planned to set up the chrono and get some velocities. I had decided to start shooting @ 90 grains and work my way up to 120.

Since i was starting @ 90 I guess I just spaced off getting the chrono out - then when that group shot so well I decided that I did not want the chrono right now as I really wanted to concentrate on the target -so I shot the next groups. When i got done with the 110 grain group - I decided why even take a chance on ruining the target with a 120 grain... So 120 grains will have to happen on another day.

I was totally happy with the way the Harvester Sabots handled those big heavy bullets.

And again this rifle was equipped with a Lehigh Breech Plug and vent liner. I have been using W209 primers for both T7 and BH. Today was like any other day with the W209 - instant ignition.. .but look how clean the primers are also - tells you how difficult it is going to be to clean this gun...

The only problem of the day is the trigger is set to light - probably right at 2 lbs. and for hunting I much prefer 3 lbs... so i will set that tonight when I clean her up...

It really is fun to shoot....

that is some mighty fine shooting there. That should make a good elk load.

Sounds like a good load for a buffalo hunt. Now that would be fun.

Yep! that is what I was thinking, but then again there are a lot of folks out there shooting 50's that really like to make big holes - these certainly would qualify as a big hole maker....

Now I really want to know what the velocity might be.....especially with BH

That ought to be a potent load for sure. How long are those bullets anyway?

I've done what you did many times - plan a chrono session, then start shooting without bothering to set up the chrono, then regret it later.
