Lets talk bore protectant

What is the absolute best bore protectant for an MZ when you put it in the safe for storage?? Lets say more than a couple of months before it will be shot again. Price is not an issue. So what is the best?? How do you apply it?? Tom.

+1
If the gun is not properly cleaned nothing is going to properly protect the bore. If my gun is going to be fired within a few weeks or a few months it gets Rem Oil. Those guns that are more or less in permanent storage get Militec 1.

My guns have been left unattended in their safes for longer than two years at a time when i worked overseas. No gun ever rusted.

Barricade or Montana X-treme Gun Oil

Borrowed from a different forum and the poster was Nimrodder. Very interesting read.

Personally for many years I used Sheath aka Barricade. I also used Breakfree CLP. Rem Oil was my short term stand by oil (right on the shelf and easy to reach). Now I have been using the Montana X-treme Gun Oil and that seems to work real well. But remember, my rifles are technically never stored. I shoot them all from time to time.

For many years I have used Bore Butter with no problems at all and they were stored for about 10 months. In the last 2 years I have used Montana XTreme Bore Conditioner and Montana XTreme Gun Oil and they have both worked well. Also as mentioned above, no Oil will do it's job if the barrel is'nt completely clean befor applying and storing.

I use three after testing a bunch of them using little plates of steel and burning black powder and 777 on the plates.
I ended up using Barricade for normal or short term, I use Montana X bore protector on the guns that I use Blackhorn in and Birchwood Casey synthetic oil on the rest.

I normally used Rem-oil. But I just ran out. So I thought I might try something new. It seemed like alot of you guy like the Montana X-Treme. So I went to E-bay to order some. I looked at 900 different auctions, and not a sinlgle bottle of Montana X-treme. Can you believe that!! Tom.

I went back to E-Bay to buy some oil. I ended up buying a 4 oz. bottle of Butch's. I use their bore cleaner, so I hope their oil is pretty good. I could not believe the price variances. One guy was selling the Butch's for $22(including shipping). On the last of 18 pages of gun oil I found it for $9.99(including shipping). Can you believe that difference?? Heck one guy wanted $9.99 for a 1 ounce bottle of Rem-Oil. And another $4 to ship it, for a total of $14 for one ounce. But he did say it was VINTAGE!! :confused0024:

I could not find any barricade on E-bay either. Tom.
