Default TC Renegade

Is the TC Renegade a good BP rifle? I may have an opportunity to purchase a slightly used one. I believe it has a 26 inch barrel. Is that too short for traditional BP. Is the 1-48 twist undesirable?

The Renegade is my all time favorite sidehammer gun. The shorter barrell and the 1/48 twist work very well for a ML. I have shot sabots and conicals from mine guns and it shoots them very well.

If this gun you are looking at is the older Renegade with a set trigger - I would jump all over it if the price were right.

Great rifle... Like Sabotloader said, one of my favorite also. I own three of them. All of them shoot very well.

I have three also, and I'm not giving them up. Fine rifles.

The 54 caliber Renegade is the best all around traditional for hunting and fun shooting.

Default How about with a patched roundball?

Thank you all for your comments.

Does anyone have experience with patched roundballs with the Renegade's 1-48 twist? I would like to use roundball in the Renegade.

My guns is in .58 cal. and shoots the PRB better then conicals. I am shooting my round balls with a .018" pillow ticking patch and get the best grouping with 85 grs. of Goex ffg. Just recently I have finally found a nice conical to shoot in this gun. It is the Lee Miniball. I am shooting it with .95 grs. of Goex ffg.

I use a pillow ticking patch and bore-butter lube with a .535 ball and 110 gr of powder stops most deer in there tracks.Excellent accuracy out to 150 with my 54's about 80 yds with the 45 and 100+ with the 50 caliber.
