Shipping MLs via USPS
 

I have my complaints about the Post Office (long slow lines in my area), but I sure can't complain about this.

Over the last few months I shipped 4 muzzle loaders to various parts of the country using regular Parcel Post with insurance. Every one arrived in good shape with average travel time around six days and average cost (with insurance) around $20.

It was a lot less hassle and cheaper than the last time I used UPS about a year ago.

Myself I have had good luck with UPS but I know others who haven't. I think it depends on your local UPS pick up place. The Post Office is more consistent from place to place I think.

shipped my last 3 rifles UPS. I save anywhere from $14 to $25 using UPS these days. Thats odd too because USPS used to be a lot cheaper than it is now. I shipped my CVA Blazer back to cva for only $14 with $200 insurance.

6 days......anytime I bought one or sent one it only took about 4 days. But your right, UPS sure beats the heck out of USPS. But guess what the USPS is run by the Govt! enough said...........

I can't complain. Both guns I got from you arrived quickly and in good condition. Of course I'm still looking for the check that they lost . I guess it's easier to lose a check than a muzzleloader:biggrin:. But if the Post office does away with saturday delivery then they won't have an edge on UPS. I hate waiting the weekend when you are expecting a new gun, so the postal service is good in that respect. Know what I mean?

My post office refused to ship a ML for me. I asked if I could ship the trigger assembly/stock in one box and the barrel in another package. The postmaster told me no. He said that they wouldn't send ANY gun parts. He instructed me to go through an FFL dealer.

When I contacted UPS about it, the first 2 guys told me that they wouldn't do it unless I shipped it next-day air. I had to check with one more guy before they figured out that antique and replica arms could go standard ground. What a big mess. I guess I just need to start hanging on to my guns :)

I have friends and family in nearly every corner of the US. One thing I have found about shipping guns: Service varries depending on the area of the country you are in.

I personally refuse to use the USPS here in TN. When I lived in VA, it was better (not perfect by any stretch) CO, USPS was the way to go. So it's hard to say one is better than the other from what I've learned.

The USPS seems to be a cr@p shoot. Sometimes they are good and sometimes not so good. I guess the more you ship the greater your chances of getting bad service (or good!).

ups is a big brown turd. With the new flat rate boxs I bet their hurting for business. I bought 68 pounds of lead scuba weights on ebay and it cost me 11.00 bucks to have it shipped across the country

The USPS in my area will not ship muzzleloaders. The Postmistress told me that it was illegal. I argued the law to her and she still refused. I ship UPS and to Idaho from my place was $17.00 with insurance. I could not argue with that price. Also no questions asked. Although they did mark the box sporting goods. Which would be correct.
