Whats Pika?

About Pika

A video of Pika

We find them at high elevations on talus slopes. 12,000' is plenty high to be in Pika habitat. In Montana we see them at 8000' to 9000' when we hunt for Elk that seem to think they are goats, and wander around on talus slopes. We only see pika when it is warm. Some call them rock rabbits or conies

Nice pictures. I bet you don't have the mosquitos like we are having here. Ron, are those triplet fawns?

Wife called her sister first thing this morning to tell her about our first triplets since we lived here. Folks around here worry about West Nile, so the county sprays for mosquito, thus there are very few to be found.

Here is a deer in the daylight.

These boys were huffing and puffing as though something had them on the run for awhile. They laid down right outside our living room window last week. We have watched the 3 point since he was a kid. He is real real nice and big and pretty now. If we weren't in the city limits, i think i might kill one deer a year here.

At this time of the year.. it could be the immature cones of the Colorado Blue Spruce. We have blue spruce here in Wisconsin but they are rare. Their needles are longer then what you find on a pine, white or red, or a Balsam tree. Real nice pictures there FG. Very pretty country.

BigZ... that is a heck of a fish fry there. Nothing better then fish on the grill.

Ron... nice pictures. I really like deer pictures.

This morning i went up into the hills to sight in the son in law .22, using cb longs. They have a marmot problem, and wanted a low power quiet killer. One can shoot them without hearing protection, and see them fly to the target through the scope. Here is where i set the target.

Looking up the trail behind the truck about 75 yard to the end of the trail. The targets were shot from the drivers seat of the truck.

A view of Rapid Creek from the edge of a steep drop, that takes my breath away. These pictures were taken about 10 yard past the end of the previously pictured trail.

Ohhhh i didnt know the name... Pika. Weird name LOL. Yes i saw those all over yesterday. We were up over 12,000 feet when we started hearing them chirp and run around all over the rocks.

Them tree with the red cones could maybe be Bristlecone Pine. Never knew they had such pretty red cones though. Did you see any Pika up there? Big country like that kinda makes one feel something strange.

The first trip I made to Co.(Cripple Creek)Made me feel very very small.Go to the top of Pikes peak,it is truely an awsome experience. On a clear day you can see Kansas.
