Look at the serial number on the rifle. The last two numbers on the serial number... xx-xxxxxx-xx is the year the rifle was made. I have a mountain stalker and the last two numbers are 02 which means it was made in 2002. The mountain stalker is the same thing as a Bobcat. But it was made for Bass Pro Shop.

my serial number is on the left side of the rifle in front of the stock. If that is the only number you can find, I really could not tell you the year but I would "suspect" it is an old one maybe from 1989 if they were made back then. Frontier Gander might be able to tell you more as he was really into the CVA line of rifles.

Cayugad, that's where that number is.

MountainDevil, the guy I bought it from said he had put it together for his nephew. This is my first ML, do kits have different serial numbers?

yes the kits serial #'s sometimes do not give you the build date. You best bet is to either call or email cva ask give them the serial # and see if they can help you with the build date.

ok, sounds good. Were there any problems with these guns? I've read some bad things about cva, but it sounds like the problems were only with in-line rifles.

their sidelocks are fine. just the 1995-1996 inlines had the real problems, everything else is fine.

Ok, that makes me feel better, I'm still going to have it looked over by a gunsmith just because I did buy it from an individual and not a dealer, just to be safe.

I appreciate all the help gentlemen, thank you very much.
