Default scope take a poop?

My brother in law and i put his brand new Leupold pro staff 3-9x40 scope on the CVA Wolf that i gave him. We did good and at 100 yards we were 1" to the right so he did 3 clicks. Shot and it moved 6" high and 7" to the right. He kept hitting that area so on the last 3 i did the same but grouped much tighter, 2 out of 3 shots touching and 1 shot only about 1" away from the other 2.

Idea's? the last time we had a scope that did this was a bushnell and it had pooped out. I just find it hard to believe that a brand new leupold would do that.

I thought Nikon made the Pro Staff...

Any scope can be bad, you might try switching to a centerfire and shooting a square to see how it tracks...

A scope will behave funny if the rings aren't well aligned or if they are tightened down too much around the scope tube. That's especially true if one of the rings is real close to the adjustment turret.

I would take the scope off and re-mount it to see what happens.

I have to agree with Semi on this. What kind of rings do you have on it? Do you have a matched set of bases and/or rings? I know this sounds crazy and you probably already checked these things but I'm just trying to figure out what happened to 2 scopes. The reason I;m asking is that it sounds like the scope tube was not aligned in the rings properly and suffered undue stress which would damge the internals.

they were the one piece dura sight dead on mounts/ring combo. I previously had them mounted on the Wolf but used a bushnell banner scope in them. The wolf shots awesome with it but as soon as he adjusted the nikon scope 3 clicks, everything just changed badly. We're going to try it again later this week off a solid rest and see how it does.

Did you know you could go back and edit your original post to help correct this wrong, and not still have wrong info in your report of scope pooping.
