Which sabot for a Big Horn
I have a Knight Big Horn rifle with a bore of .505 (if I remember right) that I need to dial in. What sabot would be the best one to use? I will be trying 260gn 45 cal and 240gn 44 cal bullets.
The last time I hunted with this I used the Knight pre-packed sabots with 45 cal bullet but the one that was loaded in the gun was all distorted when I unloaded it via the breechplug. Seemed to shoot OK on targets.
Any suggestions appreciated. I will be using BP loose.
Thanks

Shoot that is a large bore, as compared to today's bare, but non-the-less the older Knights did have a larger bore....
Probably the best aftermarket sabot to fit your bore is a MMP Regular Short Black sabot - same sabot they suggest for the Savage....

If you call them you will probably get Connie, if you tell here the regular 45/50 short black she will know what you are looking for.

I agree with SL. I have a White with a .505 bore. Use the MMP short black sabot with a .452 bullet and you will get a tight fit to the bore (I use .452 300gr Gold Dots and XTP's). Another good combo is the MMP orange sabot with a Lehigh .459 277gr bullet.

You could be correct - i know that Del builds Knights sabots now but he could be usibg their specs as he does for TC.
The short blacks work great in my White which also has the big Knight bore....

I like flounder33 have both Knight and MMP and the Knight are the thickest. The knight also has a different base cup, the MMP is stepped and the knight is a smooth taper.
My go to sabot is the Harvester short black, I buy them buy the case from Graf and sons, for $4.79 for 50 they have the best shipping price out there. for your .430 experiments try the green harvester. You can always paper wrap or knurl you bullets to get them tight.
