Lee... We have had great weather. Unlike out on the eastern part of the nation and all the snow they have gotten, we have missed a lot of that. And the sun and mild temps are sure a nice change for February. February can be brutal here but it was only -7º last night.

This was with a 200 grain bullet but it might help give you an idea about velocity....

Dave, I dont meant to go off topic on your thread, but Im sure your aware of My Wifes problems with her wrist and Surgery and all....anyway you say the 200gr XTP has hardly any recoil out of your 45. Im looking for a low recoil load for my Wife out of her ACCURA, it has the heavy stainless steel barrel and is a 50cal. so this should even lessen recoil more right?
Since we both have been using the 240gr XTP Mag and they group tight out of our ACCURA's mabey the 200gr XTP would do the same and with little recoil this may be the ticket for her.
Were you using the 200gr 10mm XTP, 200gr XTP .44cal or the 200gr XTP .45cal?
I was thinking for my Wife that the 200gr HP-XTP .45cal .451"dia would be a good choice for her ACCURA with mabey 70-80gr's of Pyro RS. This should have hardly any recoil, what's your thought's? also what Sabot should I try? also should I try the 10MM or .44cal 200gr XTP insted?
Nice Shooting Dave! glad you were able to enjoy the Weather and get out, were still pretty snowy here and Cold so it may be a few more weeks for me.
Thank's and sorry for cutting into your thread.

I have set several people up with that load in a 50 caliber as that was what they had. It works good on deer shoots reasonably flat. I normally start at 75 gr and work up usually can find a decent shooting load by the time we get to 90 gr. If the gun don't like the XTP try the 200gr SW they both work quite well. I have had the best luck with BH except in one case, I think the velocity is higher with less recoil because the weight of the powder affects recoil. Lee

The Renegade is a nice rifle but that stainless steel GMB in that caliber is heavy. Not something you'd want to carry around all day. Still with 85 grains of powder and that 200 grain XTP in a light blue crushed rib sabot... well I was having a hard time getting behind the rifle because the snow depth had me bent up with my knees, and there were times I might not have had my cheek on the stock even. There was hardly any recoil out of it. You'd squeeze the trigger hear the report and see the hole. I would think that might be a good load for your wife to try. In that Accura I would think it would shoot real well. I shoot them in m .50 Genesis with great accuracy out of a blue MMP sabot.

Sabotloader.. thanks for the numbers. I never would have guessed it was moving that fast. It should make a great deer load. As Semisane proved on that little orphan he shot. :barmy:

Today was much different shooting then yesterday. Sunny outside, still warm, around 23º so the temperature was still nice, but there was a nasty wind today. And it was blowing straight down the range. So the target was like wash on the line on a windy day. You had to kind of pick your shots you might say.

I had changed from Weaver to Traditions rings that were quick release. It makes cleaning the rifle easier because I can give it a water bath. So I was kind of pleased to see the first two were only high.

This was with 80 grains of Triple Seven 3f (new jug) and Harvester Crushed Rib light blue .45 caliber sabots. This time I was shooting the 180 grain Speer GDHP. They sure look like a well constructed bullet. And in the Crushed Rib sabots, they load like a dream. In fact after I kicked some snow around the target to keep it from flapping in the wind, I shot that five shot group WITHOUT swabbing between shots. When I finally did swab, there was some crud down in the breech but nothing all that bad.

I then shot some non paper targets for fun. I decided not to make a final adjustment to the scope because I want to see how well it returns to zero the next time I shoot.

This stainless barrel sure cleans up nice. I gave it a water bath and the second patch came out clean. Triple Seven 3f is a nice powder to shoot.

Only -7? Sure makes me appreciate NC weather. This has been one cold wet snowy winter in NC and Virginia. That was some good shooting. I'm supposed to get a caldwell shoulder saver bag and an 8" pole this week to go in my caldwell rock . Im going to try to get some shooting in this week. Im betting we will be getting some warm weather here shortly.

deer655 I was seeing on the weather channel what you were catching out there for weather. Is that normal? I hope you can get out there and shoot soon. Our snow will be here a long time still.

Weren't no orphan, DAMMIT! That doe had sharp hooves and I think I saw teeth like a tiger. She looked MEAN, and I'm pretty sure she was getting ready to charge.

cayugad 02-13-2010 06:11 PM

I guess then she deserved to be shot.

You are going to like them 180 grain Speer GDHP's I think.
